FIFA 18 Ultimate Team: Gareth Bale, Kyle Walker CB Card Top TOTW 28
International football has taken the spotlight in FIFA 18 Ultimate Team as Gareth Bale's hat-trick against China and Kyle Walker's displays for England at centre-back have earned them spots in Team of the Week 28.
Bale's triple in Wales' 6-0 rout of China saw him become Wales' all-time leading goalscorer, while Manchester City right-back Walker shone in a central role in friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy over the past week.
Joining Real Madrid star Bale in the La Liga upgrades is Andres Iniesta, who assisted Rodrigo Moreno's opener in Spain's 1-1 draw with Germany, and Barcelona team-mate Paulinho after he scored in Brazil's 3-0 hammering of Russia on Friday.
Bayern Munich are also well represented with David Alaba and James Rodriguez boosted to 87 and 88, respectively. The former whipped in a sensational free-kick in Austria's 3-0 thumping of Slovenia, while Rodriguez assisted twice as Colombia came from two goals down to beat France 3-2.
EA Sports confirmed the TOTW 28 lineup, which also featured an 87-rated Marko Arnautovic and 87-rated Joao Miranda following impressive displays for Austria and Brazil, respectively:
TOTW 28 cards will be available in packs for one week from 6 p.m. BST (1 p.m. ET) on Wednesday.
Gareth Bale, Centre Forward
A second Team of the Week in-form of the year for Bale sees him move into a centre-forward role—boasting a new 91 overall rating—having demonstrated superb finishing skills in Thursday's 6-0 win over the China Cup host nation.
A three-goal haul was enough to lift Real's wing star to 29 international goals and become his country's all-time top scorer in the process, and BBC Wales Sport provided footage of his record-breaking display:
Liverpool legend Ian Rush was the man Bale overtook to become Wales' most successful scorer of all time, but the former record holder could only congratulate his compatriot upon exceeding his 28-goal tally, via Goal:
A one-point boost to his already terrifying base pace brings Bale to 96, but he's also now broken the 90 mark in a second field, with his base shooting unsurprisingly lifted to 91. His previous 90-rated in-form had 89 finishing, 93 shot power and 92 long shots, making for some insatiable upgrades in the scoring department.
Unfortunately, the lack of elite Welsh players on FIFA 18 means linking Bale into a hybrid lineup is more difficult, but for La Liga managers with the coins to afford him, this latest in-form is sure to wreak havoc on defences.
Kyle Walker, Centre-Back
England manager Gareth Southgate took a risk in experimenting with Walker as part of a three-man central defence against the Netherlands and Italy, but it largely came off without a hitch as they went unbeaten in both.
We're only a few months from the European football season ending, but it's better late than never for Walker to earn his first in-form of the campaign, and football writer Dan Bardell was impressed with his show in an unfamiliar role:
Walker's standard 84 right-back card boasted electric base pace of 90, which only rises by a point in this 86-rated in-form, but a three-point boost to his defending takes it to a more imposing 84, joint with his base defence.
We might expect more outings at centre-back for the player at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, and Walker gave an unselfish response to his shuffle after the 1-1 draw with Italy on Tuesday, per BBC 5 live Sport:
Players with a Premier League theme in their side may still think twice about enlisting Walker at centre-back. He's no small fry standing at six feet, but his standard form had defensive deficiencies that, even with upgrades, could be hard to paper over, including 73 heading, 79 marking and 78 strength.
Ricardo Quaresma, Left Midfield
As far as super substitute performances go, Besiktas trickster Ricardo Quaresma was the pick of the bunch during the international break as he came off the bench to have a tide-turning influence in Portugal's 2-1 win over Egypt on Friday.
Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed the headlines with two injury-time goals, but it was Quaresma who assisted both, and OptaJoao highlighted what a potent force he's been for his country in recent years, starting or not:
Quaresma was previously named in TOTW 20 and TOTW 24, but this latest edition sees him move from right to left midfield, and his stats are looking all the more fearsome.
Combined with five-star skill moves and a four-star weak-foot rating, Portugal's maestro now has base passing of 90 to go along with his boosted 93 dribbling, which is of little wonder considering his assist-heavy outing.
Super Lig teams may not be the most fancied lineups of choice on FIFA 18, but combining this card with Besiktas team-mate Anderson Talisca or any number of Portuguese options makes him an attractive purchase.
