Mike Krzyzewski Breaks Record for Most Wins in D-I History
Mike Krzyzewski made more history Saturday.
Thanks to the Duke Blue Devils' 87-62 romp over the Rhode Island Rams at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Krzyzewski surpassed former Tennessee Volunteers women's coach Pat Summitt as the winningest basketball coach in Division I history.
Coach K now owns 1,099 wins. However, he believes he would still have a long way to go had Summitt not been forced to retire after she was diagnosed with dementia.

"She would have won hundreds of more games. Pat could have coached men. She did coach women," he said, according to the Duke Chronicle's Ben Leonard. "She was as good a coach as there was in the country. She really was a pioneer and set up the glory that the women's game has right now. It's too bad that she contracted the health problems that she did...she's really great for our profession."
Krzyzewski echoed that sentiment and offered more praise for Summitt—who died in June 2016—following Saturday's win, as NCAA March Madness documented on Twitter:
Safely through to the Sweet 16, the Midwest Regional's No. 2 seed will make its way to Omaha, Nebraska, with a trip to the Elite Eight hanging in the balance.
The Blue Devils will meet the winner of the showdown between No. 3 Michigan State and No. 11 Syracuse in that matchup. Those two are scheduled to do battle in second-round action Sunday at 2:40 p.m. ET.
