NCAA Tournament 2018: Round-by-Round Dates and Schedule Info

Paul KasabianMar 5, 2018

March Madness has already gotten off to a typically wild start, with Radford beating Liberty on a buzzer-beating three-pointer to punch a ticket into the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament field.

It should be a fun four weeks, especially given no clear favorite exists on the men's side.

Here's a look at some pertinent information surrounding March Madness this year, including round-by-round dates, locations, television and live-stream coverage and what we know about the schedule.

Round-by-Round Dates: NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament

Sunday, March 11: Selection Sunday (6 p.m. ET on TBS and live-streamed through NCAA March Madness Live)

Tuesday, March 13: First Four in Dayton, Ohio

Wednesday, March 14: First Four in Dayton, Ohio

Thursday, March 15 and Friday, March 16: First-round games

Saturday, March 17 and Sunday, March 18: Second-round games

Thursday, March 22 and Friday, March 23: Sweet 16

Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25: Elite Eight

Saturday, March 31: Final Four

Monday, April 2: Championship

1st- and 2nd-Round Locations

First- and second-round games will take place in the following cities: Pittsburgh; Wichita, Kansas; Dallas; Boise, Idaho; Charlotte, North Carolina; Detroit; Nashville, Tennessee; and San Diego.

Pittsburgh, Wichita, Dallas and Boise will host games on March 15 and March 17, while the remaining four cities will do so on March 16 and March 18.

Although we don't know where teams are headed yet, we do know NCAA tournament teams cannot play at their home court or where their institution is hosting.

For example, Wichita State is a shoo-in for the tournament field this year, but it won't be playing in Kansas. Although the first- and second-round games will be taking place at Intrust Bank Arena (WSU plays its home games at Charles Koch Arena), Wichita State is still the host institution for those rounds. Therefore, the Shockers will be traveling.

Sweet 16, Elite Eight and Final Four Locations

Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games will take place in Omaha, Nebraska (Midwest Regional); Los Angeles (West Regional); Atlanta (South Regional) and Boston (East Regional).

The West and South Regional semifinals and finals will be on March 22 and March 24, while the East and Midwest Regional semifinals and finals take place on the March 23 and March 25.

The Final Four will be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

Schedule

The times and dates for the First Four and first-round matchups will not be revealed until Selection Sunday. The second-round times and dates for specific matchups will be released on March 15 and March 16 after first-round matchups conclude. All of the Sweet 16 times and matchups should be available no later than the March 18, when the second round finishes up.

If last year is any indication, first-round action will be kicking off around 12:15 p.m. ET on March 15. The television schedule is staggered, with games starting anywhere from 10-50 minutes after another in any given four-game window (see last year's schedule via Land of 10 as an example).

Eight games should take place in the early to late afternoons before eight nightcaps tip off around 7 p.m. ET.

TV Information

CBS Sports and Turner Sports will once again combine to televise the tournament, as games will take place on CBS, TBS, TNT and TruTV. Every NCAA tournament game will be available to people with those channels.

Although the exact schedule is not yet known, the First Four games will be on TruTV, and CBS or TBS will show all of the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games.

TBS is also the home of the Final Four this year.
