NBA Finals 2008: Celtics Or Lakers?
For the first time, and to my delight, all seven potential games of the 2008 NBA Finals will be televised here in the UK.
During every sport's major championship, bandwagon fans come out of the woodwork to swear their allegiance to one side or the other. During the European Champions League final, (it just so happened that the two teams competing in it were English) it was either Chelsea or Manchester United.
This had never happened before so naturally, the neutral fans were divided.
Not because they wanted either of those teams to win it, but simply because their hatred for one of the teams would be the reason for supporting the other team in that final. As it turned out, United won ultimate footballing prize and the nation was divided.
Turning to the NBA, my team is, and has always been, the Rockets. Although, I've never witnessed them winning anything notable or them still competing for ultimate prize at the business end of the year, I take great satifaction in watching T-Mac destroy everybody in his way.
Their 22-game winning streak this season was a real joy to witness. Unfortunately, as every other year, they fail to mount any serious challenge as soon as they reach the playoffs. Why? I have no clue!
This year's finals is contested by Celtics and the Lakers. While Celtics have struggled their way to the finals, coming through a lot of seven game series, the Lakers have rather easily brushed aside anybody that came in their way.
I'm sure a lot of you have opinions and probably worth more than my own opinion as this sport is not my specialty.
Having said that, I pose one question: Who will you be supporting this year?
The Lakers boast probably the league's most popular player in Kobe Bryant and doesn't need rings for people to watch him. But if he loses, it's just another reason for the world to cheer. People love seeing an MVP, but there's nothing people love more than seeing an MVP fail.
Celtics boasts KG, enough said there. Besides him, they also have Ray Allen, a smooth-talking, smooth-shooting class act and Paul Pierce who has never abandoned his home team and has never asked for a trade. These players form what we now know as 'big three'.
So there we have it. Have mercy on me, as I have limited knowledge compared to a lot of you. I now hand it over to you lot, as I look ahead to Saturday's start of Euro08...
