James DudkoFeb 15, 2018

Luge, Alpine skiing, skeleton and ice hockey are among the events taking place on Thursday at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

The final of the team relay competition in luge will be one of the highlights. Meanwhile, the men's 20km individual biathlon final will take place after being rescheduled from Wednesday due to high winds at the Alpensia Cross-Country Center.

North American audiences will also get to see the United States take on Slovakia in the ice hockey. The match takes place on Friday in Pyeongchang, but the 14-hour time difference means it will be broadcast in the U.S. from 10 p.m. ET the day before.

Germany to take Gold in the Luge

Germany usually dominates the luge, and a strong team can expect to add more medals to the nation's impressive tally in the mixed team relay event early on Thursday.

Germany has the talent to add another gold medal in Luge.

The four-person team is intimidating, with Natalie Geisenberger and Johannes Ludwig being joined by Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt. Geisenberger has already captured gold at these Games and is surrounded by enough talent to repeat the trick.

Germany's toughest competition could come from Austria. Madeleine Egle, David Gleirscher, Peter Penz and Georg Fischler make up a competent quartet, one with the experience to upset Geisenberger and Co. if they can keep things close.

Martins Dukurs to Dominate Skeleton

Martins Dukurs of Latvia and Team USA's John Daly will be among the main contenders for gold when the men's fourth heat starts on Friday in Pyeongchang (Thursday at 9:15 p.m. ET in the U.S.).

Dukurs is aiming for another gold medal.

Dukurs is a record holder who has to be the favourite after winning gold at the World Championships on four separate occasions. He will also be buoyed by Alexander Tretyakov, winner of the gold at the 2014 Sochi Games, not being involved while he serves a ban.

It would be too easy to rule out Daly, though, who has been preparing for these Games by testing Team USA bobsledder Steve Langton with so-called "trust falls," per NBC Sports.

Gold for Team USA in Men's Super-G

Kjetil Jansrud will be defending his gold medal won four years ago in Sochi when the men's Super-G final gets underway in the Alpine skiing from 9 p.m. ET.

Jansrud faces strong competition in the men's Super-G.

This speed event will feature a strong field, including Andrew Weibrecht of the U.S. Olympic team, who won silver in Sochi. The 32-year-old qualified for Pyeongchang the hard way, battling through a slew of injuries.

Weibrecht is "one of just five U.S. men to win multiple Olympic medals in alpine skiing, joining Ted Ligety, Phil Mahre, Miller and Tommy Moe," per Gary R. Blockus of TeamUSA.org.

Finishing with gold would be the ideal way for Weibrecht to cap a challenging year.
