Olympic Alpine Skiing Schedule 2018: Men's Combined Downhill, Slalom Live Stream

Gill ClarkFeb 12, 2018

The Alpine skiing continues at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games on Tuesday with the men's combined, an event that mixes speed and technical ability.

There will be plenty of star quality on show, with Austria's Marcel Hirscher seeking a first Olympic gold medal and facing competition from Italy's Peter Fill, Alexis Pinturault of France and Norway's Kjetil Jansrud.

Italy's Christof Innerhofer will also be a contender. He took bronze in this event at the 2014 Sochi Games and will hope to improve on that showing in South Korea.

The conditions in Pyeongchang have already proved to be testing, with the men's downhill postponed until Thursday because of high winds. The men's combined downhill training run was also rearranged, per BBC Sport.

The decision to postpone the men's downhill was welcomed by Jansrud, competing at his fourth Winter Olympics, and he will also be going for glory in the combined on Thursday:

Hirscher comes into the Games as a legend of the sport, having won six consecutive World Cup titles. Yet for all his success, he has never won an Olympic gold medal. And the 2018 Pyeongchang Games will be his last.

He will also race in the slalom and the giant slalom, and although he's not considered the outstanding favourite in the combined, his experience and talent mean he will take some beating.

Pinturault is arguably the strongest contender but, like Hirscher, has yet to taste Olympic gold. However, he did take bronze in the giant slalom at the 2014 Sochi Games.

Fill is another name in the frame, and he has an unusual way of keeping warm, as explained by television presenter Graham Bell:

The Alpine skiing events are some of the most popular and exciting of the Winter Olympics and bring together the best skiers in the world. With the downhill competition having been delayed, the combined will be even more eagerly anticipated.
