LSU Football Recruiting 2018: Top Remaining 2018 Recruits, Class Predictions
LSU could have one of the best closes to the recruiting class of 2018 on Wednesday.
The Tigers are favored to bring in the top unsigned recruit in the nation, and they have a few targets on offense that could round out a class that should be one of the 10 best in the nation at the end of National Signing Day.
Defensive back Patrick Surtain Jr. is expected to be the cornerstone of head coach Ed Orgeron's first full recruiting class as long as he chooses LSU on Wednesday.
The secondary is LSU's main position need left to fill, but it will also be in the running for an in-state wide receiver.
Top Remaining Recruits
Patrick Surtain Jr., DB, American Heritage (Plantation, Florida)
The decision everyone in Louisiana has been waiting for will come on Wednesday morning, when Surtain chooses between LSU and Alabama.
The Tigers have long been the favorite for the son of former NFL defensive back Patrick Surtain due to his family ties in the state.
Alabama has made a late charge for the signature of Surtain since it is in need of replenishing its secondary, but it may not have the leverage in the end to lure the Florida native away from the Tigers.
If Surtain signs as expected with the Tigers, he'll join Kelvin Joseph, who committed to LSU in January, as defensive backs officially joining the program on Wednesday.
JaMarr Chase, WR, Archbishop Rummel (Metarie, Louisiana)
If JaMarr Chase signs with LSU on Wednesday, the Tigers will have three of the top four recruits in Louisiana and two of the top 15 wide receivers in their recruiting class.
Chase considered TCU, Auburn and Michigan among others throughout his recruitment, but LSU appears to be in the driver's seat heading into Wednesday.
Given how important Chase's commitment is to the Tigers, the team's entire coaching staff made an in-home visit on Sunday, per his Twitter account.
Adding Chase to a group of three current commits led by Terrace Marshall would solidify a fantastic recruiting season at the position for Orgeron and his staff.
Mario Goodrich, ATH, Lee's Summit West (Lee's Summit, Missouri)
Adding Mario Goodrich to the impressive LSU recruiting class would be an added bonus, but it doesn't appear likely that it will happen.
With the Tigers leading the push for Surtain, and Joseph already secured at defensive back, they won't need Goodrich at defensive back, and the same could be said for wide receiver with Marshall already in the fold and Chase expected to commit on Wednesday.
However, if Goodrich chooses LSU over Georgia and Clemson, it would be a massive get for the Tigers, and one that would hand them a top 10 recruiting class.
Where Goodrich plays in college is still to be determined, but he has the skill to make an impact on either side of the ball.
James Foster, QB, Lanier (Montgomery, Alabama)
No matter how strong LSU's recruiting class is across the board, it won't be ranked as high as others due to the lack of a quarterback.
The Tigers are in contention for Alabama native James Foster, but Florida State has gained steam in the hunt for the dual threat quarterback in recent weeks.
Alabama and Texas A&M, who are also in search of a quarterback to round out their respective recruiting classes, have shown interest in Foster as well.
Based off the recent momentum gained by Florida State, it looks like Foster won't be headed to LSU and the Tigers will be without a quarterback in the class of 2018.
Signing Day Prediction
Surtain and Chase will be terrific additions to LSU's class of 2018, and barring any surprises, they should suit up in purple and gold in 2018.
Surtain and Joseph could be the next LSU defensive backs to invade the professional ranks in three years, while Chase should form a fantastic partnership with Marshall in his freshman season.
Goodrich and Foster would be nice additions, but don't expect them to be putting on a LSU hat on Wednesday.
