No. 2 Virginia Holds Off No. 4 Duke in 65-63 Win; Marvin Bagley III Scores 30
No. 2 Virginia withstood a second-half surge from No. 4 Duke to score a 65-63 victory in Saturday's battle of ACC powerhouses at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.
Devon Hall led the way as the Cavaliers (20-1, 9-0) stretched their winning streak to 12 and bolstered their case for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. The senior guard tallied 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Kyle Guy put up a team-high 17 points.
Freshman sensation Marvin Bagley III had a strong showing in defeat for the Blue Devils (18-3, 6-3) with 30 points and 14 rebounds. Fellow first-year forward Wendell Carter Jr. chipped in 14 points, 15 boards, four dimes and four blocks, but the standout duo received little help in the loss.

Virginia played its brand of slow-paced, defense-first basketball to near perfection in the first half.
The Cavaliers held the Blue Devils, who missed all seven of their attempts from beyond the arc, to 37 percent shooting and forced them into eight turnovers. Meanwhile, UVA shot 44.8 percent from the field and turned it over just four times to build a 32-22 lead at the break.
ESPN's Jeff Goodman noted the rare defensive resistance against Duke:
Barry Svrluga of the Washington Post also praised Virginia's defense:
The Blue Devils came alive early in the second half. They used a 17-4 run to tie the game less than six minutes into the second half and led by as many as four with just over 10 minutes left.
Virginia once again amplified the defensive pressure to get the lead back, though. Duke scored just five points over the next five minutes as the Cavaliers moved back into the lead.
The home squad had an opportunity to tie the game inside the final minute, but a costly Trevon Duval turnover and a Ty Jerome three-pointer secured the impressive road win for UVA.
CBS Sports highlighted Jerome's clutch shot from downtown:
Dana O'Neil of The Athletic discussed Virginia's season-long rise:
Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports noted the Cavaliers' success against the ACC stalwarts:
Looking ahead, Duke must prepare for a quick turnaround as it will face Notre Dame on Monday night. The Fighting Irish started the season strong, winning 13 of their first 16 games, including a triumph over Wichita State. They have lost four straight heading into Saturday night's clash with Virginia Tech, though.
Virginia returns home to face Louisville on Wednesday night. The Cavs don't have another game with a ranked team left on their regular-season schedule, which should allow them to ride into the ACC tournament on a high note next month.
