Arturo Vidal Says There Is 'No Chance' of January Transfer Amid Chelsea Rumours

Matt JonesJan 22, 2018

Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal has said there is "no chance" of him leaving the club in the January transfer window.

The Chile international has been linked with a possible exit this term and was asked about his future on Sunday after Bayern beat Werder Bremen 4-2 in the Bundesliga.

Vidal said he wouldn't be going anywhere, at least not until the end of the season, per Joe Wright of Goal: "I'm still here until June and I'm happy. I hope to win the Champions League and then we'll see what happens, but at this moment I am 100 per cent at Bayern and there is no chance of changing teams."

As noted by Wright, Chelsea are one side said to be keen on the 30-year-old, with Blues head coach Antonio Conte having worked with Vidal during their time together at Juventus.

The position of the Bayern man has also come in for scrutiny after it was confirmed the German champions will be signing Leon Goretzka from Schalke 04 at the end of the campaign.

German football journalist Raphael Honigstein suggested the arrival of Goretzka may be the curtain call on Vidal's Bayern career:

Even with the Schalke man on his way to the Allianz Arena, players such as Vidal are not easy to replace.

The Chilean has massive influence on most matches. He is a colossal presence in the middle of the park, as his energy and combativeness allow him to be constantly involved in the action. He's been the driving force for Juventus and Bayern during their recent domestic dominance.

Vidal is a class act in possession, too. While he may not boast guile comparable to team-mates James Rodriguez or Thiago Alcantara, the midfielder is resourceful on the ball and is always seeking to be positive with it.

These numbers from WhoScored recently summed up how multifaceted Vidal is at the hub of this Bayern side:

After three years at the Allianz Arena, in which he's already won two Bundesliga titles and is on course for a third, Vidal may benefit from a new challenge.

Links with Chelsea are certainly fascinating. The Bayern man appears to have all the attributes needed to thrive in English football, and before he reaches the twilight of his career, the Premier League would surely be a tempting prospect.

Conte knows how to get the best from the Chile star, and the Italian is clearly still a big admirer, as relayed by Goal UK:

However, the landscapes in London and Munich may look different come the summer. After all, manager Jupp Heynckes is tied down to a short-term contract at Bayern, while speculation over Conte leaving Chelsea continues to rumble on, per Simon Johnson of the Evening Standard.

A new manager may come in at Bayern and seek to continue building his side around Vidal; given his talent, that wouldn't be a massive surprise. And based on what the player himself has had to say, a longer stay in Bavaria is not something he would be averse to.
