Dante Exum Ruled Out for Rest of Rockets vs. Jazz Game 4 with Hamstring Injury
The Utah Jazz announced guard Dante Exum will not return in the fourth quarter of Sunday's playoff game against the Houston Rockets because of hamstring soreness.
Injuries have plagued Exum throughout the early portion of his career. He underwent shoulder surgery before the 2017-18 campaign and appeared in just 14 games. He also sat out the entire 2015-16 season after he tore his ACL while playing for the Australian national team.
He played all 82 games as a rookie in 2014-15 and 66 games in 2016-17, but the health problems have prevented him from developing into the point guard of the future many envisioned when the Jazz selected him with the No. 5 overall pick in 2014.
Fortunately for Exum, he is still only 22 years old and has time to turn things around, but this latest setback won't help his cause.
He averaged 8.1 points and 3.1 assists per game in the 14 contests he played in 2017-18.
The Jazz relied on the combination of Ricky Rubio and Raul Neto at point guard when Exum was out after his shoulder surgery, but Rubio was also out of Sunday's contest with an injury. Look for Donovan Mitchell and Joe Ingles to handle the ball more than usual alongside Neto after Exum's latest setback.
