Rocktoberfest: LCS Preview
With the LCS matchups set, it's officially on and popping in Major League Baseball.
Here's a look at what to expect when the smoke finally clears...
ALCS: Cleveland Indians vs. Boston Red Sox
An AL fan's dream.
If the Yanks made it, the series would have been over in four games—five if Joe Torre were lucky.
Instead, it's a showdown between the two hottest teams in the American League.
The Red Sox found a way to get back in the groove when they needed to. Big Papi and Manic Manny have been swinging the bats with authority.
As for Cleveland, their pitching has been downright nasty. The arms got them this far, and that's why I'm picking them to win the series.
If you want excitement, action, suspense, and drama, watch Jerry Springer.
If you want all that plus a fall home run derby, the ALCS is for you.
Little-known fact: Two of the last three teams to eliminate the Yankees from the postseason went on to play in the World Series (Red Sox and Tigers).
History seems to favor the Tribe—but last I checked, Bostonians don't buy into the history hoopla.
Prediction: Indians in seven
NLCS: Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
Nothing is guaranteed here...except that someone from the NL West will represent the National League in the 2007 World Series.
One team was lucky enough to clinch the division on a technicality. The other team was the hottest club in baseball in the final stretch of the season.
The result: one red-hot mother of series.
Unlike the ALCS, this one won't go to seven games. The Rockies have momentum on their side—and as the Diamondbacks couldn't keep Colorado out of the postseason, I don't think they'll be able to stop them now.
Both teams have youth on their side, but the unknown young guns of the Rockies have busted out. Who would bet against the Rockies right now?
Not Phillies fans, I'll guarantee you that much.
Prediction: Rockies in six
