Are the Oakland Raiders Waiting on the Reaper or Seeking a Brother's Keeper?

Honor Warren Wells TheTorchOct 16, 2009

In Reston, VA, while I did my writing about educational issues, I decided to watch a movie in the hotel room.

I chose My Sister's Keeper . It was touching and, as usual, I saw something that made me think about the Oakland Raiders.

The idea of "letting go" is what the movie was depicting. How long do you have hope?

When do you let go, if it is clear that struggling for life has reached a mark beyond which there is not a good solution.

In the movie, a mother held on to a daughter who was dying of cancer. The mother often used the body of a younger daughter (blood, bone marrow, etc) to help sustain and extend the life of the older daughter.

It was a complicated situation, for no mother in her right mind wants to give up hope on her child.

Oakland has a problem, and when writers and bloggers say that the team has no motivation and does not care, then, to me, the team is getting ready to die.

It almost seems that things are the way they are because the Raider organization has some "dying elements" in it, and, for now, the life of the younger component is being sapped out of the the younger to sustain the older, "dying elements."

What are the "dying elements?" You, who are close up on the organization should tell us.

It seems to me it is going to take someone who is a part of the "dying elements" to refuse to drain the hope and youthful aspirations of the team.

Those who know that they cannot make a positive contribution to the future restoration of the Oakland Raiders, need to "let go."

Sometimes people know when their time is up in a job, in a role, or at a place.

Deal with reality and acknowledge the truth, and just let go.

There are many stories or testimonies of people who realize that they are draining a situation in and among their loved ones. They deal with their reality, and they let go.

Consider the scenario of the situations described when the Titanic was going down at sea. Some stayed behind and let the others go forward and be rescued.

True love is a love that makes those types of decisions.

No matter what level you are in the Oakland Raider organization, if you are there, in your dying situation, then let go.

Are you there just to draw a paycheck, or just because you are afraid of "change?"  Then, if you love the history and heritage of the Oakland Raiders, please love the organization well enough to let go.

You must deal with the fact that you do not know how to make a contribution at this time.

The Raider Nation should not have to think of boycotting.

Rather, those who are parenting us, the administration and coaching staff, need to do a reality check, and be honest enough, and loving enough, to let go, if, in fact, your season is over.

You know the truth. So, act on it, if you love us, your sheep.

Jesus asked Peter, "Do you love me?" He asked him three times, because he wanted Peter to deal with a deeper truth.

I now ask the owner, administration, coaches and some members of the team, "Do you love the Oakland Raiders and the Raider Nation? Then feed us, the sheep, with improvement this week."

Now back to the movie which motivated this article. The mother never did let go. The dying daughter is the one who willing made her transition.

It was sad. It was reality. It was a show of love for the younger sister who had been the older sister's "keeper."

Conclusion: Do you love us? Do you love us? Do you really love us? Then feed us victories!
