Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose: Where Is Tenuous WWE Raw Alliance Going?
WWE Raw fans are learning how long it takes wounds to heal as Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose slowly reunite.
The shaky partnership between the two men who, along with Roman Reigns, once formed The Shield was again one of the central stories for the red brand. On Monday's Raw, Ambrose again kept The Kingslayer at a distance, even as they fought on the same side.
They bickered backstage. Ambrose made it clear he hasn't forgotten why their alliance crumbled in the first place.
After defeating Sheamus, Rollins found himself in trouble. The Celtic Warrior and Sheamus ganged up on him, stomping him into the canvas. Eventually, Ambrose rode in and tried to play the cavalry.
Instead, the Raw tag team champions laid out both babyfaces.
Was this another sign that Ambrose and Rollins are getting back together? Will they fully insert themselves into the tag team division? Will a partially reformed Shield be going after the gold?
Miami Herald columnist Scott Fishman was among those wondering if a full-on reunion is ahead:
And Fishman makes a good point. Teams have been splitting left and right. On Raw alone, The Golden Truth and The Realest Guys in the Room both imploded this year.
That leaves two spots open on the babyface side of the Raw tag team roster.
Ambrose and Rollins would be great fits to fill one of those openings. And WWE has plenty of narrative electricity to play with should they get together with The Lunatic Fringe continually looking over his shoulder, unable to shake Rollins' betrayal of The Shield in 2014.
Plus, Cesaro and Sheamus need some fresh rivals.
The European bruisers already dispatched of The Hardy Boyz. Both The Revival and The Club are currently heels, making it harder to position them as the champs' foils.
It won't be a trio, but it's looking more and more like The Shield is on its way back.
