The Return of Brian Dawkins
Contrary to the media focus on the missing players at yesterday’s Eagles camp, players actually did attend and practices did occur.
The offseason media coverage continues to focus on the Eagles' secondary. A “Where’s Lito” remains a constant headline. And the big-money contract singed by Samuel will make him a season-long target of the fans and media if the team struggles.
Sheppard and Samuel may make a good headline, but the success of the Eagles' secondary and defense will in large part be determined by the health and play of Brian Dawkins.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
2007 was a season of struggles for Dawkins, both on and off the field. Neck, back, and foot injuries limited Dawkins to action in only 10 games. Statistically, the season was his worst, notching a career-worst 37 total tackles, one interception, and six defended passes.
Off the field, Dawkins was dealing with the health issues of his daughters, twins that were born prematurely. Offseason training and preparation was the furthest thing from his mind and heart.
Listening to Dawkins speak following yesterday’s practices, one can’t help but feel excited about the upcoming season. He talked about his revitalized energy and peak condition. He talked about the excitement of incorporating the team’s news players into the Eagles defensive schemes. B-Dawk is back!
The offseason was quiet for Dawkins. He noted that he was again able to fully focus on his football training and conditioning. All signs point to Dawkins again regaining his spot as one of the league’s biggest impact players on defense.
A healthy, focused Dawkins gives the Eagles another playmaker. And this playmaker is a six-time Pro Bowler and potential Hall of Famer. This playmaker gives the Eagles nonstop adrenaline and tenacious tackles. Dawkins equals the big play.
Dawkins’s versatility creates nightmares for opposing teams. 2008 will be a return to Dawkins creating turnovers, pressuring the quarterback, and frustrating receivers with his coverage. An already solid defense can reach greatness with Dawkins returning to his all-out, non-stop style of play.
The Eagles leader has returned. For how many more seasons is unsure, but we must now hope that the team's winning ways will also return.
