Ravens-Vikings and Giants-Saints: Two Must-See Week Six NFL Games

josh davisOct 14, 2009

Week Six is full of potentially great games and some that aren't so great.  But, as the title of this article shows, I will talk about the two you cannot miss.

Lets start with the early games (1:00 pm Eastern, 10:00 am Pacific).

Baltimore Ravens at Minnesota Vikings

This game excites me because Baltimore is coming off a loss to the Bengals, and Minnesota is just playing great football.

How Baltimore reacts to the loss is going to tell us how this season is going to end for them.

So far, they are ninth in the league against the run, and third against the pass.  But the fact is they have not yet been matched up against a good running team.

Last time I checked, that's exactly what Minnesota is.

Every game they have won, it has been by a big margin, and their losses have been close ones.  So the lesson here is to get an early lead and keep it.

Good luck, because Minnesota is best against the pass, fifth against the run, and best overall in the league.

With weapons like Adrian Peterson, and Percy Harvin, we may see a more real representation of what this year's Baltimore defense is like.

New York Giants at New Orleans Saints

This game looks huge. Both teams are undefeated, and New Orleans are coming off of a bye.

Mike Bell is still not 100 percent, and Pierre Thomas really isn't either.  Reggie Bush is obviously not a threat between the tackles. And yet they are second in the land running the ball.

And with a game manager like Drew Brees behind center and a plug-and-play mentality in the passing game, they are fifth through the air.

Defensively, though, the Saints are 31st in the league in the passing game, and that could easily get exploited by Eli Manning and whichever young receiver he decides to throw it to.

As bad as they are against the pass, they are exactly the opposite defending the running game.  The Saints allow just 70 yards a game, which could spell doom to the two beasts the New York Football Giants have in the backfield.

Eli has never played a single game in his career in the Superdome.  Ever.  So, while he has played in domes before, the Saints crowd is a much different monster.

The thing about the Giants being undefeated and looking so well so far this season is simple: They haven't played anybody.

I'm not saying they aren't a good team, but the Washington and Dallas games were won by a combined eight points.  These were easily the two strongest teams they have faced.  Then their games against Tampa Bay, Kansas City and Oakland were won by a combined 72 points.

New York is middle-of-the-pack on defense and statistically the same on offense.  This could be a wake-up call for the men in blue.
