Dabo Swinney Says He's Rooting for FSU in Season Opener vs. Alabama
Dabo Swinney will apparently be cheering for his conference rival Florida State in a highly anticipated opening weekend game against Alabama.
"I'm pulling for the Noles," he said when asked at ACC Media Day on Thursday, per Matt Connolly of The State.
Swinney played for Alabama and began his coaching career with the Crimson Tide before becoming the head coach of Clemson.
However, Clemson and Alabama have built a bit of a rivalry over the past two years competing in the national title games each season. The programs have split the last two championships.
The Tigers also play the Seminoles each season as part of the ACC Atlantic division, but Clemson has won each of the past two years.
Meanwhile, a Florida State win would benefit Clemson more during the regular season as it would represent a stronger opponent when they match up in November. The Tigers will have their own tough nonconference battles this year as well with Auburn and South Carolina once again on the schedule.
Alabama will take on Florida State on Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. ET.
