Justin Thomas Shoots Record 9-Under Par at 2017 US Open on Saturday
Justin Thomas made history Saturday at the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin, shooting a nine-under par 63 in the third round.
Per the PGA Tour on Twitter, Thomas' nine-under is the lowest single-round score relative to par in U.S. Open history.
To reach 63, the 24-year-old had nine birdies and two bogeys as well as an eagle on the par-five 18th hole. The U.S Open's official Twitter account shared a look at his final Round 3 shot:
As part of Thomas' record-breaking day, he jumped 23 spots on the leaderboard and held a two-shot advantage at the time he walked off the course.
Thomas has four career PGA Tour wins on his resume, including two this year. This is just his third appearance at the U.S. Open, with his previous best finish at the event a tie for 32nd at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania last year. He's finished inside the top 20 of a major tournament only once.
