The quartet of Paul Casey, Brian Harman, Tommy Fleetwood and Brooks Koepka is tied for the lead at the 2017 U.S. Open with matching scores of seven under par after the second round at Erin Hills in Wisconsin on Friday.

All four players enter the weekend at Erin Hills seeking their first career major title. They will have to contend with a group of three players, including first-round leader Rickie Fowler, tied for fifth at sixunder par and five others tied for eighth at five under par.

However, a number of players gave impressive performances to keep up the chase at the top, with Paul Casey, Si Woo Kim and  Xander Schauffele all positioned to strike.

Rory McIlroy missed the cut for the second consecutive year and will not feature on Saturday.

The superstar shot a one-under 71 in his second round as his challenge for the title evaporated.

McIlroy has a rib injury that has severely limited his tournament activity in recent times.

The player hit four birdies as he closed out his round, but the effort wasn't enough to save him.

Sergio Garcia remains in the hunt for further major success after posting consistent rounds of 70 and 71 in his opening efforts.

A birdie on No. 7 steadied the Spaniard's nerves on Friday, and further birdies on No. 15 and No. 18 completed a good day.

Casey is playing some of the best golf of his life as he chases an elusive major success.

The talented Englishman shot a second round of 71 to leave him on seven under for the competition.

Casey opened his second round with three consecutive birdies, but a triple bogey on No. 14 punctured a great effort.

The American charge continues down the leaderboard after Xander Schauffele and amateur Cameron Champ shot credible second rounds.

Schauffele posted a round of 73 after hitting a first round of 66, while Champ remains at five under for the tournament.
