2017 NBA Mock Draft: Predictions for Prospects Poised to Shake Up 1st Round
At the 2017 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears shocked every football fan by trading up one spot to select UNC quarterback Mitchell Trubisky even though they had just given a big free-agent contract to former Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal-caller Mike Glennon.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans then traded up to select Patrick Mahomes II and Deshaun Watson with the 10th and 12th picks overall, respectively.
Those selections shook up the first round, as quarterback was seen as one of the weaker position classes in the draft by many analysts.
Will we see similar shakeup in the NBA draft? It's possible. Below you'll find four players whose selections could send shock waves throughout the first round.

De'Aaron Fox and Josh Jackson
Barring something unforeseen, Markelle Fultz is almost certainly going No. 1 to the Boston Celtics. Lonzo Ball seems the most likely pick at No. 2 to the Los Angeles Lakers, but what if L.A. passes on Ball for another point guard, such as De'Aaron Fox, or a forward, such as Josh Jackson, who could be a great fit?
Fox outplayed Ball in their teams' Sweet 16 matchup, with Fox posting 39 points. His defense and athleticism are off the charts, and no one's stock has risen as high as Fox's since the season ended.
Josh Jackson is also a defensive stalwart, and he's an efficient scorer as well, making 51.3 percent of his field goals in his one season in Kansas.
If Fox or Jackson goes second to the Lakers, what do the Philadelphia 76ers do at No. 3? Would they take Ball or another player? Would a mystery team try to trade off many assets to obtain the 76ers' pick?
The No. 2 selection is by far the most interesting pick in the draft. If Fox or Jackson goes there, the draft is going to be entertaining.
Zach Collins
Many guards and small forwards populate the lottery portion of the above mock draft. In fact, Arizona power forward Lauri Markkanen and Gonzaga center Zach Collins are the only big men in the top 14.
Markkanen makes his living on the outside, as he is a three-point marksman who attempted 4.4 three-pointers per game for Arizona last season.
Collins is the only player on this list who hangs around the post most of the time, and one has to wonder whether a team in the top 10 looking for some post help is going to pick him early.
The Gonzaga product should be a hot commodity on draft night. He is a 7'0", 19-year-old center who just enjoyed an incredibly efficient season, making 65.2 percent of his field goals. Collins also averaged 10.0 points and 5.9 rebounds in just 17.2 minutes per game.
If he goes earlier than expected, then we could see a domino effect where other big men, such as Jarrett Allen, are taken earlier by teams looking for post help.
Jordan Bell
Per Joe Bloss of CSNPhilly.com, the 76ers are comparing Oregon power forward Jordan Bell to Dennis Rodman, who is undoubtedly the greatest rebounder the game has ever seen.
Bell's stock is rising, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him picked in the top half of the draft. At the NBA Draft Combine, Bell posted the fourth-best lane agility time (10.63 seconds), the fourth-best shuttle run (2.83 seconds) and 12th-best vertical leap (38.0 inches).
Yes, Bell is a bit undersized (6'8 ½") for a power forward who earns his living down low, but he makes up for it with his athleticism and tremendous defensive and rebounding potential.
He shone during the NCAA tournament, averaging 12.6 points, 13.2 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game. Most notably, he blocked eight shots against Kansas in the Elite Eight to help lead Oregon to its first Final Four since 1939.
Like Collins, if Bell goes earlier than expected, we may see a run on big men in the draft.
