Noah Syndergaard Doesn't Regret Not Having MRI Before Suffering Lat Injury

As the New York Mets continue to wait for star pitcher Noah Syndergaard to return from the disabled list, the right-hander doesn't think he made a mistake not getting an MRI before suffering his lat injury.

Syndergaard was asked about his injury and the days leading up to it during a Thursday appearance on WFAN Radio's Boomer & Carton (via ESPN.com). 

"No, no regrets for me really," he said. "There was nothing structurally wrong. I was able to go out there and play catch and throw all those bullpens. I felt great, ready to (start) that Sunday. But something happened."

Syndergaard was scratched from a start on April 27 against the Atlanta Braves with a tired arm, though he didn't seem concerned about it. 

"It's a little thing right now," Syndergaard said, via MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. "But we definitely don't want it to turn into a big thing. In my opinion, I think it's very minor, and I'll get back on the field on Sunday."

After three days of rest, Syndergaard returned to pitch on April 30 against the Washington Nationals. He was removed after 1.1 innings when he allowed five runs on five hits and two walks in a game the Mets lost 23-5, then got put on the 10-day disabled list the following day.

Syndergaard was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 7 and is unlikely to return until after the All-Star break. 

The 24-year-old is 1-2 with a 3.29 ERA and 32 strikeouts in five starts this season.
