WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from June 7

Erik BeastonJun 7, 2017

The rivalry between No Way Jose and Sanity continued Wednesday as the popular, fun-loving babyface squared off with the massive, unstoppable force known as Killian Dain.

The match was but one addition to a loaded lineup that also featured Oney Lorcan vs. Hideo Itami in an incredibly hard-hitting war that saw the furious Itami reach a new level of ruthless aggression.

Heavy Machinery and Peyton Royce were in action, building their stars and attempting to interject themselves into title contention, but it was the confrontation between NXT champion Bobby Roode and Roderick Strong that could prove to have the greatest impact on the brand.

Who emerged victorious, how did the night's biggest stars fare and what grade did each segment earn?

Find out with this recap of the June 7 episode of NXT on WWE Network.

Heavy Machinery in Action

1 of 5

The incredibly fun, undeniably dominant run of Heavy Machinery continued Wednesday night as the mammoth duo bowled over more competition, this time in the form of Lars Sullivan and Victor Andrews.

Otis Bogojevic and Sullivan started the match with an impressive heavyweight showdown that saw each demonstrate their considerable strength. Sullivan got the best of his opponent, becoming the first Superstar to knock a member of Heavy Machinery off their feet.

Bogojevic responded with a nice dropkick, to which Sullivan answered with a massive powerslam. The aggressor tagged partner Andrews into the ring and immediately regretted the decision as the babyfaces obliterated the much smaller competitor.

Bogojevic and partner Tucker Knight delivered their new double-team maneuver, The Compactor, to score another impressive win.

Sullivan, enraged by Andrews' incompetence, brutally assaulted his partner and left him lying in a heap following an impressive torture rack backbreaker.

Analysis

The Heavy Machinery team will never not be fun to watch.

A throwback to old-school teams like The Natural Disasters, they are unapologetically corny with their mid-match celebrations and pandering to the crowd. They bring an energy to the show few other teams do, including the subdued tag team champions The Authors of Pain, and are unlike any other act on the roster.

That is beneficial to them and the audience, who always appreciates fresh and interesting.

Roderick Strong Confronts Bobby Roode

2 of 5

Roderick Strong hit the ring and addressed the NXT Universe.

He reiterated his desire to win the NXT Championship after talking about his family and newborn son. "It's Roddy, Marina and Troy vs. The World," he said as he discussed his drive and passion to hold the brand's top title.

Bobby Roode interrupted, feigning tears as he mocked Strong's promo. He applauded Strong on finally winning matches, then delivered a backhanded compliment about his family.

Roode warned Strong against playing the "Bobby Roode Lottery" and concluded by telling Strong he simply isn't man enough to win it.

Strong looked dismayed by the insult dealt him by the NXT champion as the segment came to a somewhat abrupt end.

C+

Analysis

This was a solid enough introduction to the rivalry between Strong and Roode, but the abrupt ending and lack of response from the potential No. 1 contender after such an insulting tongue lashing by the champion was not a good look by any means.

The story itself is one that will always work, regardless of the era, because of the emotion involved. Strong is fighting for his family, Roode is the egomaniacal champion who underrates and underestimates his opponent.

The build should be fun to watch as Roode is at his obnoxious best and Strong gets the opportunity to shine in a way he has not been allowed to since his arrival.

Sarah Logan vs. Peyton Royce

3 of 5

The rarely used Sarah Logan, known to independent fans as Crazy Mary Dobson, looked to silence one-half of the overwhelmingly obnoxious Iconic Duo, Peyton Royce.

Royce took her opponent down and worked her over with a cross face. Growing more animated with every near-fall, she screamed and stomped with frustration as Logan refused to stay down.

Logan blasted Royce, but no comeback was able to overcome the intense determination and ferocity of the Aussie, who scored the victory with a fisherman suplex.

Peyton Royce defeated Sarah Logan

Analysis

This was, without a shadow of doubt, the best Royce has looked in NXT.

The character work intertwined with tighter in-ring work made for a much more effective and entertaining product than she has delivered in the past.

Always a performer whose potential was evident, she was never able to put all the pieces together.

That finally happened Wednesday night.

Hideo Itami vs. Oney Lorcan

4 of 5

Hideo Itami's breakdown following his loss to Bobby Roode at TakeOver: Chicago put him at odds with Oney Lorcan, and Wednesday, they squared off in a brutally physical match.

Itami seized control of the match early, but Lorcan fired off a running blockbuster that left Itami fleeing to the arena floor to recover. He attempted to follow up with a dive to the floor, but Itami caught him with a big kick and a flying clothesline for two.

Lorcan rifled off a series of hard chops to the chest, and Lorcan responded with a flurry of slaps that floored the Japanese sensation. He scaled the ropes and delivered a tope to Itami on the arena floor. Lorcan found his momentum halted by a referee's warning.

Moments later, he unloaded three Go To Sleeps on Lorcan before Kassius Ohno ran in to make the save.

A conflicted Ohno shoved Itami to the ground, instigating a rivalry between the Superstars that figures to play out in the coming weeks and months.

No-contest

Grade

Analysis

This was a fantastic way to get over the new and improved Itami, who looked like a ruthless and vile bad guy unconcerned with the safety of his fellow competitors.

The start of a rivalry with Ohno is the perfect way to utilize the talents of both men, whose NXT experience is plentiful but whose success has been limited for whatever reason.

The facial expressions by all involved perfectly conveyed their passion or the torment the situation made them feel. It added to the emotion of the moment and made for a much more compelling segment of television.

No Way Jose vs. Killian Dain

5 of 5

The main event of this week's show featured No Way Jose's quest for vengeance as he battled Killian Dain in singles competition.

A determined Jose took the fight to his larger opponent, catching him with a double ax handle and big boot that sent Dain to the arena floor, a look of disdain and frustration painting his face.

Back from the commercial break, Dain seized control and wore his fun-inciting opponent down. His strength and size advantage a valuable weapon, he trapped Jose in a neck vise. He cut off a comeback attempt and reapplied the hold.

Dain caught his opponent with a barrage of forearm strikes to the chest before Jose mounted a comeback.

The babyface attempted a fireman's carry, but the weight of Dain proved too much. A second attempt and the TKO downed Dain for an incredibly close near-fall.

Jose attempted the wind-up punch, but Dain caught him with a massive dropkick and the Ulster Plantation finished the popular Superstar as Sanity got back on the winning track, courtesy of Dain's inspired performance.

Killian Dain defeated No Way Jose

Grade

B

Analysis

This was a hard-fought main event that featured one of Jose's better performances to date. He was determined, physical and left some the showboating at home as he sought victory.

Dain, an immensely athletic big man, showcased his skill set as he systematically and impressively defeated a significant threat to Sanity.

The only question now is where both go from here.

Sanity has been somewhat directionless, working guys like Jose and Roderick Strong without really having rhyme or reason for doing so. A great deal of the momentum they had upon their formation seems to have dissipated.

Jose, on the other hand, is a popular babyface the brand clearly values. Unfortunately, what awaits him in the next handful of weeks is unclear.

That is unless the continuation of the war with Sanity will keep him and that faction busy.
