Scooter Gennett Makes Cincinnati Reds History Tuesday
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett launched a grand slam in the third inning of Tuesday night's blowout victory against the St. Louis Cardinals.
He then proceeded to go deep another three times in the contest, marking the first time a Reds player has homered four times in a game, per ESPN Stats & Info. Only 16 other MLB players have homered four times in a game. Gennett also tallied 10 RBI in the contest, tying the franchise record for most in a single game, per ESPN.
Gennett doesn't have a history of being a power hitter either. In his 46 previous games this season (some as a pinch hitter), the 27-year-old had smacked just three home runs. He more than doubled his prior home run total in Tuesday's contest. Gennett's highest home run total came last season, when he hit 14 home runs over 136 games with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Due to massive depth at the position in Milwaukee, Gennett found himself on the outside looking in for a roster spot at the end of spring training. The Reds quickly snatched him up after the Brewers waived him, and he's served as a valuable utility piece for the club this season.
Gennett received the starting nod in left field in place of Adam Duvall on Tuesday, batting fifth on his historic night at the dish. The outing earned him another start Wednesday—this time spelling Jose Peraza at second base—as he looks to build off of Tuesday's showing.
