Gennady Golovkin Rips Canelo Alvarez for Not Knocking out Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Canelo Alvarez handled Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a May bout, but Gennady Golovkin wasn't impressed.
According to TMZ Sports, Golovkin said Alvarez should have knocked out Chavez Jr. and agreed Canelo is in for a "rude awakening" when the two meet in September. Golovkin also said Alvarez stood up in between rounds to impress women.
TMZ Sports shared more of the interview on its YouTube page:
Golovkin would know something about knockouts considering he has tallied 33 during his 37-0 start to his career. Dan Rafael of ESPN.com noted the fighter had 23 straight knockouts before his decision victory against Daniel Jacobs on March 18.
Alvarez didn't knock out Chavez Jr., but he has 34 in his career and an impressive 49-1-1 record heading into his much-anticipated Sept. 16 fight against Golovkin. Rafael, who noted Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya announced on SportsCenter Monday the fight will take place in Las Vegas, called the upcoming showdown "the biggest fight of the year."
It wouldn't be a marquee boxing match without some trash talk, and that is exactly what Golovkin provided Tuesday.
