Cristiano Ronaldo Says James Rodriguez Has Reasons for Potential Madrid Exit
Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed James Rodriguez "has his reasons" for a possible Real Madrid exit, although he wishes the Colombian No. 10 would stay.
Ronaldo was speaking to Spanish broadcaster La Sexta's Jurgones program (h/t Marca) when he addressed James' future: "James has his reasons and we have to respect them. If he doesn't feel happy and if he wants more, then he should look for the best thing for him. If he asked my opinion, I would tell him to stay."
Going into greater detail, Ronaldo indicated James' main complaint is his lack of playing time: "Obviously he has his complaints and the best thing would be that he plays more, but these are very personal things."

Significantly, Ronaldo indicated James should play more, endorsing his ability to thrive with Los Merengues: "He has the potential to play for Real Madrid, but he has his reasons and we must respect them."
Despite Ronaldo's words, gaining more playing time won't be easy for James amid reports manager Zinedine Zidane lacks faith in him. Spanish source Diario Gol (h/t James Walters of the Daily Star) recently revealed "Zidane will no longer play Rodriguez."
The lack of faith seemed obvious when news broke last month Real had offered James to Premier League side Manchester United for £50 million, according to a report from Sky Sports News HQ.
James may be open to the move because he has since reportedly told Los Blancos to reject a £36 million offer from Serie A side Inter Milan, per Spanish publication AS (h/t Metro's Coral Barry): "That is because Real know Rodriguez wants to join United and believe the Red Devils can offer more money than the Serie A suitors. Rodriguez has warmed to the idea of joining United after they secured Champions League football."

There is no doubt James is a supremely gifted match-winner when at his best. His flair, skill and vision make him a natural No. 10, one able to both score and create goals in bunches.
However, the Colombian's mercurial streak appears to have left Zidane cold, with a move away now best for both parties, despite Ronaldo's reservations.
