Jose Mourinho Says He Made 'Every Decision' for Luke Shaw During Everton Draw
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said he made "every decision" for Luke Shaw during his cameo appearance in the 1-1 draw with Everton on Tuesday.
The left-back was brought off the bench in the second period and helped ignite what was an otherwise moribund performance from the Red Devils. Shaw's skewed effort from the edge of the area was handled by Ashley Williams in the final minute of the match, giving Zlatan Ibrahimovic the chance to snatch a late point for United at Old Trafford.
Mourinho hinted his influence is beginning to show in the left-back's play. "He was in front of me, and I was making every decision for him," said the Portuguese coach, per BBC Sport. "He has to change his football brain."

It's been a testing time for Shaw. When he broke through at Southampton, his raids down the left flank were thrilling to watch, so when United landed him in the summer of 2014, it was deemed a coup.
However, a leg break at the start of the 2015-16 season set his progress back, and while he's recovered full fitness since, he's found it hard to force his way into Mourinho's plans this season, with just seven starts made in the Premier League.
Per Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News, Shaw at least showed signs of life as he was drafted in for Ashley Young against the Toffees:
Mourinho offered some insight into why the England international has struggled to get minutes in the setup, though.
"We need his fantastic physical and technical qualities, but he cannot play with my brain," he said. "He must accelerate the process. Twenty-one is old enough to have a better understanding. He has a future here but Manchester United cannot wait."

Although Mourinho seemed pleased with Shaw's impact, his comments will only prompt further scrutiny over the left-back's position at Old Trafford. Indeed, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Young have all been utilised in the position ahead of the former Southampton man at times this term.
Shaw showed what he can offer in his time on the pitch. He hugged the left touchline, provided a penetrative threat and delivered some dangerous crosses into the penalty area.
Bleacher Report's Rob Blanchette would like to see Shaw involved more often following on from this bright appearance:
Mourinho has been ruthless with other key members of the United squad, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial spending time on the bench earlier in the campaign when they were not measuring up to the Portuguese's standards. In the case of Mkhitaryan, in particular, it's helped him grow into a better player.
It'll be fascinating to see if Shaw comes out the other side a more rounded footballer, too. After all, the left-back is still young, still has a lot to learn and will have found rhythm difficult to come by having been on the fringes of the team, especially after such a long spell out through injury. Perhaps Tuesday can be a trigger for the 21-year-old.
