Roberto Perez, Indians Agree on 4-Year Contract with Club Options for 2021, 2022
The Cleveland Indians have locked down catcher Roberto Perez for the next few years, the team announced Sunday.
Perez was set to be arbitration eligible for the first time after this season, but this deal buys him out through that time, keeping him on the payroll through at least 2020 with team options for the subsequent pair of years.
Zack Meisel of Cleveland.com provided the breakdown of the four-year deal, which is worth $9 million guaranteed. The first team option is for $5.5 million in 2021 and the second is worth $7 million in 2022.

Perez isn't known for his offense, finishing last season with just a .183 batting average and three home runs in 61 games. In parts of three seasons, the catcher has hit just .220 with 11 home runs in what nearly amounts to one full year.
However, the 28-year-old is known for his defensive abilities. He threw out 50 percent of baserunners in 2016, which would have led the league if he had enough playing time to qualify.
He and Yan Gomes will likely share time at catcher this season for Cleveland.
