Gary Payton Jr. Signs 2-Year Contract with Milwaukee Bucks
The Milwaukee Bucks signed Gary Payton Jr. to a two-year contract Sunday, according to Chris Haynes of ESPN.
Payton averaged 14.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.0 steals in 49 games with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA's D-League this year.
On Saturday, the Bucks waived power forward Terrence Jones, who was signed by the team March 4. That opened up a roster spot to sign Payton.
Payton went undrafted in the 2016 NBA draft but was signed by the Houston Rockets. He was cut by the team before the regular season, however, and joined the Vipers.
Payton, the son of NBA Hall of Famer Gary Payton, will offer the Bucks depth in the backcourt behind point guards Malcolm Brogdon and Matthew Dellavedova as the team looks to make a postseason run. The team is currently 40-36 and holds the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference.
