Prognostications Gone Awry: What a Weekend! SEC Smack Reviewed
Florida-LSU: Tebow Could Start and Why That's Good News For LSU
Tebow was Tebow and Florida won. Jefferson was Jefferson, that was the reason LSU went down in death valley. No Gator meat in the gumbo. The Gators proved to be the better nocturnal predator.
Here Is Why LSU Will Own Florida This Saturday Night
John Chavis was not a factor. The LSU offense did not get on track. Tebow was Tebow. Night game in Baton Rouge seems no different than a night game in Happy Valley. If you don't have the athletes prepared, you can't win. I don't think Les feels real lucky right now.
Is LSU Merely Another Speed Bump for the Florida Scoring Machine?
"These Tigers are primed and poised to not just be another speed bump on the way to a perfect season for Florida—but to be the brick wall that stops the Gator Bus—in a classic battle on the bayou."
Both offenses looked anemic. Defenses not great between the 30's. This game was over-hyped but good for the SEC. I now believe Florida is average, offensively. Similar production to the 2007 team. The defense is as good as any. The Tigers challenged until the fourth quarter.
Florida did slow down but managed the speed bump. Turns out the speed bump was road kill in the form of a Bengal Tiger. Having negotiated this hazard, the Gators are now on a road without a high powered defensive challenge.
But watch out Florida boys. If your defense goes to sleep, you could end up in a shootout with the Junkyard Dawgs or pass happy Razorbacks. They'll be scrappin' like an unpaid parlor maid, with nothing to lose. The Gamecocks now feel emboldened, as well (see below).
Picking the Bayou Biggie: With or Without Tebow, Florida Will Beat LSU
Florida Gators Want Win Against LSU Tigers, Need Quarterback Tim Tebow
Florida Gators at LSU Tigers: Tebow? Don't Forget Brandon Spikes
"However, Brandon Spikes will lead the Gator defense to stop the LSU offense, which will allow the Gator offense to be on the field 30+ minutes."
"Throw out the home-field advantage, the Tim Tebow factor, and Florida's recent history in Death Valley, because the Gators are going to leave Baton Rouge as they came in: as the nation’s No. 1 team."
Florida scribes are riding high. Brandon Spikes did indeed have a big game. He is all that, and more. Tebow is the best individual offensive threat in college football, with or without a headache. I think Florida fans know about their offensive concerns with or without Tebow.
The defense for the Gators is special and helped out in a big way. They remain undefeated and now have a legit chance at an undefeated regular season. Postseason, they will be challenged in the SEC and the followup bowl bid (possibly the BCS championship).
The Gators will likely win the East. The West is still up for grabs. The Alabama natives now think they have the inside track but that is an illusion. The road is long, the competition in the West is up to the task.
Alabama Is About to Have Its Coming Out Party At the Grove!
Is History In The Making For This 2009 Crimson Tide Football Team?
Fight On, Fight On, Fight On, Men. You're Bama's Football Pride, Roll Tide!
Alabama writers are a little cocky but the Men in Crimson are giving them plenty to write about. The season is long. This high could be short lived if the offense continues to sputter.
There will be another gut check next weekend when the Ole Ball Coach rolls into town with the revved up Gamecocks. It doesn't get any easier after next weekend for the Tide.
The rest of the West now possess a lesson on how to harness the big red elephant. The offense was stymied in the red zone by a well prepared Rebel defense. It took a complete effort from the defense and special teams to pull out the win.
The Tigers from the east and southwest of Bryant-Denny still have a legit shot if they can shake the heartache of this weekend. I don't think they are fond of the Fat Lady's voice and they don't want her singing at their party any more.
Georgia Vs Tennessee: Time To Squeeze The Big Orange
Not too much smack on the Georgia blog. Concerns were there that proved to be justified.Concerns about the coach will rise but Richt should be left alone. He has set the bar higher with his tenure and is rebuilding for another run down the road.
The Dawgs are over-matched for the contest set in Jacksonville. They must overachieve to have a shot at upsetting the Gators. Georgia will go bowling, but they will be sitting at home with their loved ones on New Years day.
Tennessee Volunteers vs. Georgia Bulldogs: Two Teams Going Nowhere Fast
"I also believe that this Tennessee team is mad and is ready to finally put a full game together. Jonathan Crompton had a great fourth quarter last week, and the Vols should utilize the no-huddle to his advantage."
Good article and good prediction. In fact, Tennessee did better than even die hard fans expected. They kenneled up the Dawgs for the last three quarters of the game. The Big Orange are in the position to salvage this season.
A victory against the Crimson Tide would be a signature win for the Kiffin administration. Lance Thompson has great insight into the Alabama system, having jumped ship last year. His insight combined with a "Full Monte" effort by the defense could be that kind of win.
Why Is Auburn's Offense So Effective Under Gus Malzhan
Not effective enough on this Saturday. The Arkansas D found a formula for slow down that worked like a charm. Auburn will rebound. The will likely finish strong. But on this day, the Razorback tusks were lethal.
Auburn-Arkansas: Why the Tigers Will Rein in the Razorbacks
"When the guns stop blazing on Saturday, Auburn will holster its pistol, wipe its brow, and take a long swig from the 6-0 flask."
Auburn showed up with the pistols but forgot the bullets. They swigged from the flask Friday night and didn't get enough rest for the early start. Arkansas, on the other hand, went ballistic on the Tigers and sent them home licking their wounds.
The Razorback offense is a force to contend with for the rest of the West. Their defense showed signs of improvement. If the defense can hold together for a similar effort in the Swamp, the game next weekend will be no gimme for the Gators.
Auburn-Arkansas: The SEC's Most Important Game in Week Six
Baton Rouge and Oxford took center stage, but much was exposed in Knoxville and Fayetteville.
Lots of football left to play. No fan should give up on their team at this point in the season but more realistic expectations should set in now that week six is over.
No. 25 South Carolina- Kentucky: Five Keys To a Gamecocks Victory
USC didn't dominate, didn't pressure Hartline into mistakes, didn't stuff the wildcat runners but they did win. Not surprisingly, this has emboldened the bleacher writer fan base to conjure the following headline:
"Why South Carolina Will Beat Florida in 2009"
Oh my God. Here we go.
The Gamecocks haven't even been to Tuscaloosa yet and the fans have the Gator's in the sights. I am sure that Spurrier will not overlook his date with the Crimson Tide, neither should the writers.
The offensive playbook will be exhausted for the cause. If Garcia can step up, they will give the fans in the Yellow Hammer state a heart cramp. But it ain't gonna happen. The Bryant-Denny Crowd will have the defense pumped.
Ain't it great! This is what makes it fun. It's a great community. Lots of good fans with passion for the game. Keep up the good work. Continue to support your team with the same passion as preseason and pre-week six because there is too much football to get down now.
Just like the players, have a 24 hour rule. Get up on Monday with you eye on next weeks opponent and tap out your best assessment. Give it some smack and show respect along the way.
