Liverpool vs. Everton: Jurgen Klopp Talks Philippe Coutinho, More in Presser

Rory MarsdenMar 31, 2017

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino are available for Saturday's Merseyside derby against Everton in the Premier League.

The pair both started for Brazil against Paraguay in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Tuesday, but Klopp said they are both fit to face the Toffees, although he hinted they may not be at their freshest, per James Pearce in the Liverpool Echo:

Both are vital to Liverpool's attack, so it is a big boost that they are available as the Reds aim to pick up three points and strengthen their position in the Premier League's top four.

There are other key absentees, though, most significantly Adam Lallana who picked up a thigh injury while on international duty with England.

Klopp did not place blame on Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate but could not hide his frustration at Lallana's injury, meanwhile he confirmed Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson remain sidelined, per Pearce:

Liverpool have not lost to Everton in any of the last 13 meetings between the two sides and the last time the Toffees won at Anfield was in 1999.

However, Ronald Koeman's side are in decent form at the moment and have more than enough quality to trouble Liverpool's shaky defence.

Romelu Lukaku could be a key presence in Saturday's match, and Klopp made it clear he is making plans to stifle the Belgian, per the Echo's Joe Rimmer: "He is a really good striker. He has our respect. He needs passes, support from other players. How can we avoid this? My main thing."

Liverpool are fourth but have played two more matches than fifth-placed Manchester United and are only four points ahead of the Red Devils.

Klopp's side cannot afford to slip up or they will be in danger of not qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League.

Victory against their local rivals could propel the Reds into third. But it will be a huge challenge for a Liverpool side beset by key injuries, and the likes of Firmino and Coutinho will need to be on top form.
