White Sox's Tim Anderson Buys Mom New Car After Signing Contract Extension
Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson parlayed an impressive 2016 debut into a six-year, $25 million contract extension. He celebrated by buying his mother a Mercedes.
The 23-year-old posted a picture of his mom, Lucille Brown, posing with the newly purchased luxury vehicle. "I love you mom," he wrote. "You deserve it."
Per the Chicago Tribune's Colleen Kane, Anderson said Brown "was dancing and excited" when he watched her receive the gift via Facetime.

Despite not reaching the majors until June 10 last year, the shortstop made a quick impression by batting .283 with nine home runs, 10 stolen bases and 2.4 WAR, per FanGraphs, in 99 games. According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, no position player with less than a full year of service time has received as much money.
The deal, which bought out all of Anderson's arbitration years, afforded him enough long-term stability to treat his mother to a token of gratitude.
