Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports first reported the news.
James Wagner of the New York Times provided Familia's statement:
Familia was arrested after his wife, Bianca Rivas, called police Oct. 31. She had a scratch on her chest and bruise on her cheek allegedly caused by Familia, which led to the arrest, according to ESPN.com's Adam Rubin.
In December, the simple assault case against Familia was dropped, with the judge convinced that Rivas did not fear for her safety, per Jim Baumbach of Newsday.
Jon Heyman of Today's Knuckleball reported Wednesday that Familia's wife has "passionately disputed" what he was accused of.
The 27-year-old Dominican Republic native posted a 2.55 ERA last season and saved an MLB-high 51 games while also being named to his first All-Star team.
Addison Reed is expected to fill in as the Mets' closer during Familia's absence after manager Terry Collins told him to prepare for the role in February, according to Billy Witz of the New York Times.
Reed has 106 career saves and closed out a career-high 40 games for the Chicago White Sox in 2013.
