The top player in Scout.com's rankings is center DeAndre Ayton out of Hillcrest Hoops in Phoenix. He's intending to stay in-state and go to Arizona. The muscled seven-footer led his team to a national championship, averaging 26 points, 15 rebounds and 3.5 blocks, per USA Today.
247Sports' Jerry Meyer complimented the Bahamian teenager's post-game:
His polish might come as a result of his versatility. According to Hillcrest head coach Kyle Weaver, the team asked Ayton to do much more than just hunker down in the low post.
"We don't have a legit five," Weaver said, per the Arizona Daily Star's Bruce Pascoe. "We don't play back to the basket much. But we have him do a lot of pick and roll, shooting off dribbles. We're trying to develop him from one to five."
Ayton might hold the top ranking at Scout.com heading into the game, but it's interesting to note that he's not necessarily got the top spot on lockdown. In the article from Pascoe, Scout analyst Josh Gershon said Michael Porter Jr. could be in the mix for the top spot.
"Porter had the more consistent season, but we have to make a final call on these kids soon, and obviously what happens this week has a big say in that," Gershon said, per Pascoe. "It'll be interesting to watch those two go head-to-head."
Porter is ranked fifth on Scout.com's rankings. Though he hails from Seattle, Porter intends to play for the Missouri Tigers next season.
Boasting excellent size for a wing at 6'8" and 210 pounds, Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman noted Porter has superstar potential and could be a top pick in the 2018 NBA draft should he go one-and-done in college:
"A face-up scorer with shot-making skills, takeover potential and vision, Porter plays an offensive game that's easy on the eyes. Bigs won't fare well against his perimeter shooting or off-the-dribble attack, and wings can't match his size.
Smooth, athletic and polished, Porter is going to put up big numbers as the Tigers' No. 1 option. And there shouldn't be any easy reasons for scouts to think his success can't keep translating.
Behind Kansas' Josh Jackson and Duke's Jayson Tatum, look for Porter to follow as one of the game's next up-and-coming star forwards.
"
While Ayton might not spend too much time going directly at Porter on Thursday, he could find himself clashing plenty with Scout's No. 2 prospect, Mohamed Bamba.
A wiry forward/center with a ridiculous 7'8" wingspan, Bamba is still undecided on his college future heading into the McDonald's All-American game.
According to Kentucky.com's Ben Roberts, Bamba is sought-after by Kentucky and Duke, with Michigan and Texas also in the mix.
The recruiting battle must be at a fever pitch, especially with Bamba showing off his athleticism and Inspector Gadget arms on this dunk, per ESPNU:
Another undecided player to watch in this game is point guard Trevon Duval, who plays for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Duval has good size for a floor general at 6'3" and averaged 16.2 points and 7.7 assists per game for IMG Academy this season, per USA Today.
According to Rivals.com's Eric Bossi, Duval has his college wish list pared down to five programs:
Duval would be a massive get for a program like Seton Hall, but it's going to be tough for them to fend off the overtures from the likes of Kentucky and Duke.
As previously mentioned, the Wildcats already have four commits playing in this game, but they are still in the mix for others.
Coach John Calipari has turned his program into an unabashed finishing school for NBA-caliber talent, so in many ways, the McDonald's All-American game is a glimpse into Kentucky's future as much as it is the NBA's.
