James Rodriguez Reportedly Uses Middle Finger Gesture to Journalists in Colombia

Matt JonesMar 27, 2017

Colombia captain James Rodriguez has reportedly caused controversy in his homeland after brandishing his middle finger at journalists.

As reported by Marca, the press has been critical of the side’s form as of late, with the team sitting in fourth spot in the CONMEBOL qualifying group for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Real Madrid man Rodriguez evidently isn’t happy with the assessments, making his feelings clear to some assembled journalists, as we can see below.

Colombia won their most recent match 1-0 against Bolivia, although Jose Pekerman’s side were nowhere near their best.

It was Rodriguez who got on the scoresheet for Los Cafeteros too as he slotted home at the second attempt after his penalty kick was saved, per Bleacher Report UK:

Previously this season, international duty with Colombia has been a relief for Rodriguez as he’s struggled to force his way into the Madrid first team on a regular basis under manager Zinedine Zidane. But his time with the national team this time looks to have been frustrating for the playmaker.

That’s because Colombia face a massive fight to qualify for the World Cup automatically. They visit Ecuador, who are just a point back on Pekerman’s men, on Tuesday in what is a crucial game. Copa America winners Chile are also just a point back.

Rodriguez will be hoping to fire his nation to a crucial victory in Ecuador before returning to Madrid. The 25-year-old has made just seven starts in La Liga this season and has been linked with a possible transfer in the summer.
