Minnesota High School Basketball Team Wins Playoff Game on Bizarre Buzzer-Beater
A high school basketball team in Minnesota won a state tournament game with unintended help from its opponent.
With the game tied at 50, No. 1 seed Champlin Park's McKinley Wright missed a jumper. A Chaska defender tipped the ball away from the basket, but Sam Dubois was right there to catch it and heave up a desperation three at the buzzer.
His off-balance shot went down, and his teammates mobbed him in celebration. Dubois, a senior, found himself at the bottom of a pile on the Target Center court.
"It's something you dream about, but when it happens, you're like, 'Oh, it actually happened,'" Dubois told Jace Frederick of St. Paul Pioneer Press. "It's hard to describe, but I'm sure when I'm older I'll look back and show my kids and brag to my dad and whatnot. So that'll be good."
The 30-0 Rebels knocked off unseeded Chaska (24-7) to reach the Class 4A semifinals Thursday at 6 p.m. versus No. 5 Wayzata (27-3).
