Carlos Carrasco Reveals He Once Ate Pizza 90 Straight Days at Spring Training

Athletes tend to stick to a nutritional diet in order to keep their bodies in tip-top shape, but every once in a while, they can allow themselves a cheat day.

Key words being "once in a while."

Cleveland Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco recently published a piece on The Players' Tribune to give fans an inside look at his journey from Venezuela to the majors. In it, he revealed an interesting tidbit about his first spring training camp as a 16-year-old, when he was with the Philadelphia Phillies:

During my first spring training, I ate Domino's pizza every day for dinner.

I'm not exaggerating. I had Domino's every … single … day. It was the only thing I knew how to order.

So for 90 days, I ate pizza. I ordered it so much that the Domino's near our facility ended up giving me one month of free pizza as a reward for being their best customer.

"

Pizza for 90 straight days? That sounds like a dream scenario for some people—but it's probably not in the best interest of athletes. Most of the time, any athlete who gets into a habit of eating junk food will wind up out of the league quickly. Knowing that, Carrasco has overcome the odds.

Carrasco has come a long way through the years, going from a young player who ate pizza every day to a key arm on a contender. The right-hander signed a lucrative extension a couple of years ago, so the 6'4, 210-pounder can certainly afford to stick to whatever nutritious meal plan the team wants him to follow.
