Manchester City Transfer News: Sergio Aguero Price Reported Amid Latest Rumours

Matt JonesMar 20, 2017

Manchester City would reportedly be tempted to sell star forward Sergio Aguero for around £50 million.

That's according to James Robson of the Manchester Evening News, who has commented on Aguero's performance in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Sunday. While the Argentina international netted a crucial equaliser for his team, he also missed some key opportunities to win the game for City, much to the dismay of his manager Pep Guardiola.

"The Catalan dropped to his knees and slammed his hands on the turf as another chance went begging against Liverpool," noted Robson. "On this occasion, it was a volley from Aguero, sent sailing over the bar late on. It was the last in a succession of chances that fell to the 28-year-old."

According to Robson, City have long felt as though they could recoup in excess of £85 million for the striker if they were to sell, although now he'd reportedly be allowed to depart for nearer £50 million.

Aguero has netted 22 goals in all competitions so far this season, including 13 in the Premier League. As noted here by OptaJoe, he loves facing Liverpool on home soil:

Despite his impressive numbers for the campaign, there have been small signs that all is not well for Aguero at City this season.

Indeed, he's only been reintroduced into the team since Gabriel Jesus was injured at Bournemouth recently. The young Brazilian was hailed not only for his goalscoring but for his link-up play, work rate and movement off the ball that allowed him to quickly usurp his senior team-mate.

Aguero has also cut a frustrated figure at times. Earlier in the season, he was hit with a ban for an elbow on West Ham United's Winston Reid, while he also missed a further four matches after being red-carded in the home defeat to Chelsea, having lunged in on David Luiz.

Football journalist Rafael Hernandez suggested during the game against Liverpool that Aguero is not the right stylistic match for a Guardiola team either:

Afterwards, the City boss hinted that he may not be able to mould his No. 10 into a forward that suits his system.

"In my career I was a football player, I scored 11 goals," he said after the 1-1 draw, per Robson. "One goal a year. Can you imagine the advice I say to Aguero and the other guys to score a goal? I don't think so."

Nevertheless, as these figures from Sky Sports' Monday Night Football illustrated recently, Aguero does seem to slowly be adapting to the physical demands Guardiola places upon all his players:

Aguero is always good for a goal. In the history of the Premier League, it's difficult to think of a footballer who has been so sharp in the penalty area and so deadly when shifting the ball and shooting. Having a player like him in the squad is a massive asset, as has been proven in City's two title wins with Aguero spearheading the charge.

However, the best City have looked under Guardiola recently has been with Jesus up top. The Brazilian linked up tremendously with Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling during his time in the XI, giving City perpetual motion and intensity in the final third.

If the manager sees the youngster as the man to lead the line at the Etihad Stadium next season, it wouldn't be a huge surprise if they opted to cash in on one of the finest players in the club's history.
