Browns Draft David Njoku in 1st Round, Joins Myles Garrett, Jabrill Peppers
David Njoku may not be the most complete tight end in the 2017 NFL draft class, but the Cleveland Browns believe he can provide a huge boost to their offense after making him their third first-round pick and 29th overall.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
For starters, it's worth breaking down just how gifted Njoku is from a physical standpoint. A 6'4", 246-pound machine, the Miami Hurricanes product ran a 4.64-second 40-yard dash and recorded a vertical jump of 37.5" at the combine.
Njoku also registered a broad jump of 11'1", which ranked second among all tight ends behind only Virginia Tech's Bucky Hodges.
As far as his tactical skill set goes, Njoku is a pass-catcher of the highest caliber who drew comparisons to Greg Olsen at NFL.com and Jordan Reed at Pro Football Focus.
As if his hands weren't intriguing enough, Njoku also emerged as a real threat to burn past opponents in the open field after the catch. According to PFF, Njoku averaged 11.2 yards after the catch per reception in 2016.
Pro Football Focus' College Football Twitter account provided a deeper breakdown of the sensational numbers Njoku posted during the 2016 season:
However, the 20-year-old has some serious work to do as a blocker.
As Pro Football Focus noted, "He ranked 36th among 77 qualified, draft-eligible tight ends this season in terms of run-block grading after finishing 26th among the group in 2015; he could really struggle against NFL edge defenders with an explosive first step."
That said, blocking concerns shouldn't keep Njoku off the field at the start of his career. He's simply too talented with the ball in his hands, and his plus-leaping ability combined with solid speed will make him a prime red-zone target from Day 1.
The Browns addressed the defense with their first two first-round selections, taking Myles Garrett with the No. 1 overall pick and Jabrill Peppers with the 25th overall pick.
The offense finally gets some love with the addition of Njoku. There may be questions at the quarterback position in Cleveland, but this franchise needed playmakers at the skill position as much as it needs someone under center.
Rebuilding a 1-15 franchise with a depleted roster takes time and bold moves. The addition of Njoku is a big and bold step for the Browns, one that will lead them in the right direction.
