Chelsea Transfer News: John Terry Reportedly Won't Be Offered Contract Extension
John Terry reportedly won't be offered a contract extension by Chelsea when his current deal with the Premier League leaders runs out this summer.
According to Sam Long of the London Evening Standard, the Blues' 36-year-old skipper will instead be free to join another club, with moves to MLS or Chinese Super League among the possibilities.
Interestingly, continuing his playing days may not be Terry's only option. Long also noted how Chelsea may have another role in mind for one of their most decorated and loyal club servants: "Terry will be free to continue his playing career elsewhere once his contract expires but Standard Sport understands he could yet be handed a coaching or ambassadorial role by Chelsea."

Terry's loyalty was shown by his decision to shun interest during the January transfer window, according to Long. The veteran centre-back is said to have preferred staying put and possibly winning a fifth English top-flight title.

Long detailed how Terry would qualify for a winners' medal should the Blues wrap up the league crown, despite having made a mere five appearances in the competition. Terry hasn't been used much since Antonio Conte succeeded Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink as manager in the summer.
In fact, Terry has made just 10 appearances in all competitions this season, according to WhoScored.com. He has been given a start only eight times.
The Italian hasn't turned to Terry, despite shifting Chelsea to a three-man defence. Instead, Conte spent big to bring David Luiz back to west London from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
Conte also opted to convert full-back Cesar Azpilicueta into a central defender. Luiz and Azpilicueta have joined Gary Cahill to form an effective trio at the back.
The Blues also have 22-year-old Frenchman Kurt Zouma fit again and ready to deliver on his undoubted promise. All in all, Terry is obviously surplus to requirements in Conte's plans.

Long pointed out how he could move to MLS, the same way former Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard did. Alternatively, he might follow ex-Blues stars Oscar and Ramires to China, per the reports.
For now, Chelsea's skipper should get his wish to lift one last Premier League trophy. The Blues are 10 points clear at the top with 11 games to play and in irresistible form.
Wherever Terry ends up next season, his place as a Chelsea legend is assured.
