Ex-PSU AD Tim Curley Pleads Guilty to Child Endangerment from Sandusky Scandal
Former Penn State athletic director Tim Curley pleaded guilty Monday to child endangerment for his role in the cover-up of the Jerry Sandusky sexual assault case, according to the Associated Press and Charles Thompson of PennLive.com.
Former Penn State Senior Vice President Gary Schultz also pleaded guilty to child endangerment, per Thompson.
Curley and Schultz each pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor endangerment, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Senior Judge John Boccabella noted that no agreement on the sentencing had taken place, however.
The pair were charged after failing to alert authorities when former Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary said he saw Sandusky sexually assaulting a boy in a locker room shower on Penn State's campus in 2001. McQueary told Paterno what he saw, who reported the information to Curley. None of the men involved contacted police.
Former Penn State president Graham Spanier is now the only man set to stand trial for criminal negligence, with Thompson reporting both Curley and Schultz could now potentially testify against Spanier for the prosecution following their guilty pleas.
Sandusky is currently serving a prison sentence of 30-60 years after being convicted on over 40 child sexual abuse charges.
