West Ham vs. Chelsea: Antonio Conte's Key Pre-Match Press Conference Comments

Gianni VerschuerenMar 3, 2017

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has denied rumours Inter Milan have made an offer for his services. He's also wary of the threat local rivals West Ham United will present during Monday's Premier League match and said Eden Hazard has picked up a minor knock.

The former Juventus boss has been linked with his old club's biggest rivals for the past few days, but during Friday's pre-match press conference, he emphatically denied rumours there have been talks between himself and the Nerazzurri, via Goal's Nizaar Kinsella:

Conte did admit his family misses him as they have stayed behind in Italy. He hopes to bring them to London in the future, per ESPN FC's Liam Twomey:

On the injury front, the Italian mostly had good news for fans, although it seems star winger Hazard picked up a minor knock in training. Conte appeared to downplay the severity of the injury and even quipped about the culprit:

The Blues will face West Ham on Monday, the final match of Week 27 of the Premier League season. The Hammers haven't been in great form of late, but they tend to play up to their competition and often do well against rivals from London.

Conte hasn't forgotten the defeat in the EFL Cup, and he expects another difficult outing:

He highlighted striker Andy Carroll as one player to keep an eye on in particular, via the club's official Twitter account:

The reporters steered the presser back to Conte's future and whether or not he'll stay at the club. When asked whether he wants to continue with the Blues beyond his current contract, he pointed to Claudio Ranieri's sudden sacking at Leicester City to explain there are no certainties in football. Per Mirror Football, he said:

"It is normal for every coach to hope to stay, to work to improve your players to reach great results and to win.

"The situation is fresh with Ranieri and we must be ready for all. I hope to stay, to work a lot and stay with this club."

He finished the presser with a comment on Victor Moses, who was rewarded for his fantastic season with a new contract:

The Blues remain the clear favourites to win the title thanks to their 10-point lead in the standings―although Manchester City could close the gap to eight points if they win their match in hand.

Conte has always had a tendency to capitalise on momentum as much as possible, however. Chelsea will keep a close eye on their rivals over the weekend before they travel to east London on Monday.
