Liverpool vs. Arsenal: Jurgen Klopp's Key Pre-Match Press Conference Quotes

Rory MarsdenMar 3, 2017

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said he is "not a clown" and recognised that his side need to improve following their 3-1 defeat to Leicester City on Monday.

He also confirmed that Jordan Henderson will not return for Saturday's key Premier League clash with Arsenal at Anfield and revealed that Daniel Sturridge has a new injury concern.

Analysing the defeat to the Foxes—Liverpool's third league loss in five—Klopp admitted his side were poor but rejected claims they are not physical enough, per the Liverpool Echo's Ian Doyle: "We ran 121 kilometres in this game—80 per cent the wrong way—and had a really bad game. But in terms of being physical in the challenge, it's not a general problem. It hasn't been until now."

He continued that he does not ignore the issues in his side but is still optimistic, per Hamish Mackay in the Mirror: "I am not a clown. I am not always laughing like crazy. We are all influenced by experiences. We don't ignore the problems. My job is to make the players feel there's a big chance to win it."

Liverpool could be in sixth place in the Premier League by the time they kick off against Arsenal if Manchester United beat Bournemouth in Saturday's early game.

The Reds' recent home form has been varied. Though they beat Tottenham Hotspur last time they played at Anfield, their previous five matches on Merseyside resulted in three defeats and two draws.

A win against the Gunners is a must for Klopp's side if they are to remain competitive in the race for the top four.

However, as against Leicester, the Reds will once again be without captain Henderson, and Klopp explained Sturridge's issue as well, per the Echo's James Pearce:

The reverse fixture against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on the opening weekend of the season ended in a 4-3 victory for Klopp's side.

Per sports betting company Unibet, recent clashes between Liverpool and Arsenal have tended to be goal-filled affairs:

It could well be a similar situation on Saturday given Liverpool's ongoing defensive issues.

But Klopp will likely care little how many goals are scored as long as Liverpool can claim a victory to get back on the winning track and leapfrog Arsenal in the table.
