Analysis

Sevilla didn't lose any ground in the table Thursday, as Vicente Iborra scored the game's lone goal in the 14th minute after Gorka Iraizoz saved a Stevan Jovetic penalty. The win kept Sevilla just two points behind Barcelona and a point behind Los Blancos, though Cristiano Ronaldo and company do have a game in hand.
Still, Barcelona will be motivated to win a third straight La Liga crown to send Luis Enrique out in style.
While Sevilla has been perhaps the biggest and most pleasant surprise in La Liga this season, Atletico Madrid continue to struggle, at least by their standards. Atletico drew Deportivo in a game marked by an incredible Antoine Griezmann strike and a scary moment, as Fernando Torres had to be taken off the pitch on a stretcher.
The Spaniard collided heads with a Deportivo opponent and then hit his head on the ground again, and Torres was taken straight to hospital.
Thankfully, the worst seems to have been averted after a frightening scene. Atletico's title hopes aren't doing so well, however, as the perennial contenders now find themselves 11 points behind Barca, likely an insurmountable deficit.
At this point, Atletico can likely forget about automatically qualifying for next year's Champions League as well, as a top-three finish seems potentially beyond reach as well given the nine points they would have to make up on Sevilla (they could also qualify automatically by winning this year's Champions League).
And Real Sociedad are just a point behind Atletico for fourth, leaving the Madrid side with a fight on their hands down the stretch. Drawing with Deportivo, a club desperately fighting to avoid relegation, isn't the sort of result that will inspire confidence in Atletico supporters.
Atletico have 13 La Liga games left to ensure a top-four finish and possibly catch Sevilla. But the odds aren't in their favor.
As for Athletic Bilbao, the loss kept them four points behind Villarreal in the race for the Europa League.
Coming up in Matchday 26 will be a host of intriguing matchups, headlined by Real Madrid taking on Eibar, Barcelona facing Celta Vigo, Atletico taking on Villarreal and Sevilla taking on Alaves.
