Evening Recap

Webster kicked off the evening session against Whitlock, and drew first blood despite the Australian hitting 180s in three of the first four legs of the opening set.

The Demolition Man then took advantage of the Wizard's failure to find double tops to increase his lead.

A 112 checkout helped the Englishman win the third set before he finished off the fourth in some style, per Sky Sports Darts:

Two-time defending champion Anderson was similarly dominant against Gilding as he dropped just one leg in each of the four sets.

As demonstrated by PDC Darts, Goldfinger was clinical on the doubles with an impressive 80 per cent conversion rate, but simply didn't give himself enough opportunities to attempt them, not helped by a match average of just 86.21.

The Flying Scotsman raced through the match, crashing home stunning 134 and 132 checkouts along the way. PDC Darts captured the latter:

Lewis continued the run of whitewashes when he took on Cullen.

Despite an 11-dart leg and a 92 checkout, Jackpot was made to work for the opening set with the Rockstar twice pegging him back after landing double 10 and double 16.

Lewis laid down a marker in the second set, however, claiming it 3-0 and in decisive fashion:

Another ton finish set Lewis on the way to the third. After hitting a 180 Cullen checked out on 103 as he showed some late spirit in the fourth, but there was nothing stopping his ruthless opponent and the match quickly went the way of the others.

Afternoon Recap

A thoroughly entertaining afternoon session saw two matches go to tiebreakers, the first being Smith's remarkable clash with King.

The latter got off to an excellent start, notching a 121 checkout in the first leg as he quickly took the opening set. Despite King grabbing a 148 finish in the second set, Smith was able to pull level at 1-1 and then moved ahead after throwing two maximums in the third.

After winning the fourth set, Smith had the opportunity to kill off his opponent but missed five match darts in the fifth:

A sublime 130 finish helped King force a deciding seventh set. Three more missed match darts from Smith kept the 50-year-old alive, and he capitalised on the mistake:

Bully Boy was finally able to see off the King in the resulting tiebreaker with the help of his 14th 180.

The 26-year-old was delighted to come through the game and cited his improving mentality and form as the keys to his win:

Van de Pas' clash with Jenkins was similarly dramatic.

A double 16 handed the Dutchman the opening set before the Englishman equalised thanks to 11 and 12-dart legs.

Van de Pas would respond with back-to-back set wins, but Jenkins showed tremendous fighting spirit to work his way back into the match, per Sky Sports Darts:

An 87 checkout on the bull helped Jenkins pull level at 3-3. Missed darts on both sides produced yet another incredible finish, with Van de Pas crashing home a 110 checkout and a double-five finish to claim his place in the next round.

In the afternoon's opener, White eased past Clayton in a much more straightforward affair. The former raced through the first three sets, losing just one leg in each.

Clayton was briefly able to earn some respite, per Live Darts:

However, he was unable to sustain his comeback, and White quickly saw out the match 4-1, mounting a rally of his own after Clayton took the first two legs of the fifth set.

White will face either Peter Wright or Jamie Lewis in the next round for a place in the quarter-final, his previous best finish in the competition in 2014.

After Friday's evening session, play will resume on Tuesday, December 27.
