Real Madrid Transfer News: James Rodriguez Speaks Out, Latest Isco Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenDec 18, 2016

Real Madrid star James Rodriguez has admitted he could leave the club and already has offers, while team-mate Isco is once again being linked with a move to Arsenal.

Rodriguez has talked of his desire to stay with Real Madrid for months now, discrediting every transfer rumour that has surfaced. He did so again earlier this week, as reported by Marca (h/t Daily Express' Jack Otway).

But speaking after the Club World Cup final, which Real won 4-2 over Kashima Antlers, the Colombia international finally admitted his future isn't so certain, per Goal: "I can't assure I will stay at Real Madrid. I have offers and seven days left to think about my future.

"I am happy in Madrid, but I want to play more. I have a bitter feeling as I wanted to play the final, but I am happy for the title. It's my 15th title in my career."

Per the report, both Manchester United and Chelsea will be delighted to hear about this sudden change, as they've both been linked with the 25-year-old.

Rodriguez was widely regarded as one of the world's best attacking midfielders just two years ago, but after a promising debut campaign with Los Blancos, an untimely injury in 2015 derailed his progress.

He spent weeks working his way back to full fitness, but by the time he was ready to return, Real had seemingly moved on. The Colombian has been a fringe player ever since, often wasting away on the bench while the likes of Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez play meaningful minutes.

As you can see in the video below, he has still flashed his talent, and there will be plenty of clubs that believe he can rediscover his top form with a change of scenery:

A move in January would be complicated, however. While Real have plenty of depth in attack and midfield, they also have a transfer ban for the coming two windows. Los Blancos can't bring in an alternative player, and it would be a tremendous risk to ship Rodriguez off knowing that there won't be replacement for the foreseeable future.

As a result, Real will likely hold out for a significant fee, while interested clubs will point at his inactivity and lack of form in a bid to get the price down as much as possible.

Isco finds himself in a similar situation, and Tom Hopkinson of the Sunday People is the latest to link the Spain international with a move to Arsenal.

Like Rodriguez, Isco has dropped down the pecking order after a promising debut in the Spanish capital, and he has admitted previously that he may have to leave the club to revitalise his career, per The Sun's Jim Sheridan:

"

It’s difficult when you’re training well and the manager does not put you in.

But in the end it’s my own fault. In the end it is me who is responsible. I want to see where I can improve to get in there.

I am not going to give in easily. I know I will be a success.

I don't know if that will be with Madrid -- I hope so. But if not, I will be a success somewhere else.

"

Isco is a more versatile midfielder than Rodriguez, and he has seen more consistent action over the past month. He notably filled in for both Toni Kroos and Luka Modric when the two were sidelined and more than held his own.

Here's a look at some of his highlights:

Isco's versatility means Real are less likely to move him on, at least until the transfer ban is over. He has been at the club longer than Rodriguez and didn't carry such a hefty price tag, which would help in Arsenal's favour.
