Adonis Thomas to FSU: Seminoles Land 4-Star LB Prospect
Florida State picked up a commitment Friday from linebacker Adonis Thomas, one of the top junior college prospects in the country, to bolster its defense for 2017.
Chris Nee of Noles247 passed along word of the defender's decision. Thomas also posted a message on social media directed to the Seminoles' coaching staff:
A source provided Nee with a glowing review of Thomas following a single season at Northwest Mississippi Community College: "Awesome kid. Zero problems off the field. Honor roll student."
The inside linebacker is rated as a 4-star prospect and the fourth-best overall recruit from the JUCO ranks, according to Scout. The outlet previously listed him as a 4-star prospect when he chose Alabama out of Central Gwinnett High School in Georgia as part of the 2015 class.
Matt Zenitz of AL.com reported in July that Thomas decided to leave the Crimson Tide before the 2016 season due to concerns about playing time.
The 6'3", 230-pound linebacker ranked second on Northwest Mississippi with 73 total tackles. He also tallied 11.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, five quarterback hurries, an interception and a forced fumble across 12 games. The Rangers finished with a 9-3 record.
Although Thomas is listed as an inside linebacker, he's showcased the versatility to play anywhere at the linebacker level, and he could even shift to defensive end. He possesses a well-rounded skill set that should help him make the transition back to major college football.
Defensive end DeMarcus Walker is the only senior among the Seminoles' starting front seven, so Thomas figures to face a lot of competition for playing time at the outset.
There should be multiple openings at linebacker in 2018, however, and he has the talent to fill one of them. He'll have three years of eligibility remaining upon joining FSU.
