Chelsea Transfer News: Latest Rumours on John Terry and Cesc Fabregas

Rory MarsdenDec 15, 2016

John Terry and Cesc Fabregas could both reportedly be set to follow Chelsea team-mate Oscar by swapping Stamford Bridge for the Chinese Super League in 2017.

Per Matt Hughes in The Times, Oscar will be paid £20 million per year when he makes his expected £60 million move to Shanghai SIPG next month.

According to Tim Rich in The Independent, Terry could also move to China in the January transfer window, as he will not be offered a new contract by Chelsea and Shanghai Shenhua are set to make a lucrative offer in a bid to tempt him to the Far East.

Rich added that Shenhua are "under pressure from the Shanghai government to make major signings to promote the city," and Terry could be offered a deal worth between £8 million and £12 million to join them before the 2017 season starts in February.

Centre-back Terry, 36, would become the first Englishman to play in the Chinese Super League should he make the move.

It is a switch that makes sense for the former England captain, as he is no longer a regular in Antonio Conte's Chelsea side—he hasn't made a Premier League start since September—and is nearing the end of his career. What is likely set to be his final Blues deal is due to expire at the end of the current season.

The same could arguably not be said for Fabregas, who has recently forced his way back into the first-team fold at Stamford Bridge having warmed the bench for much of 2016-17.

Per the Daily Mail's Kieran Gill, though, the Spaniard could make a move to China in the summer, as he has drawn interest from the Chinese Super League, with his likeliest destination current champions Guangzhou Evergrande.

Due to his lack of action under Conte this season, Fabregas has been linked also with a number of European outfits, including West Ham United, AS Roma and AC Milan—see the video below:

According to Gill, Chelsea will not sanction a move for Fabregas in January but would demand as much as £40 million should Guangzhou want to buy him in the summer.

Fabregas, 29, has made just three Premier League starts in 2016-17 but has made a big impact recently in games against Manchester City and Sunderland after forcing his way back into the side, per the Mirror's John Cross:

He still has a huge amount to offer at Chelsea, and there are a number of top European sides in which he would thrive.

Unlike Terry, it would perhaps not be the best career move from Fabregas to move to China, but Guangzhou could offer him a deal that is too good to turn down.
