Los Rojiblancos confirmed on their official website on Monday the Slovenian had dislocated his shoulder, suffered during his attempt to keep out Jonathan dos Santos' goal.
As noted by sportswriter Jonas Giaever and Bleacher Report UK's Rik Sharma, the injury is the last thing sixth-placed Atletico needed:
His replacement, Miguel Angel Moya, is an experienced stopper—the 32-year-old has made over 200 La Liga appearances over the course of his career and was the club's first-choice goalkeeper for much of the 2014-15 season.
Atletico also boast one of the most organised and robust defences in Spanish football, so there will be plenty of protection in front of Moya.
However, beIN Sports' David Cartlidge believes neither Moya nor Atletico's defence is equipped to handle Oblak's absence:
Oblak will indeed be missed—the 23-year-old is well on his way to becoming one of the best goalkeepers in world football and is a commanding presence behind the back line.
Atletico are already facing a serious battle just to finish in the UEFA Champions League places this season, and their task has just been made all the more difficult.
