UBS Hong Kong Open 2016: Saturday Leaderboard Scores and Highlights
Sam Brazel joined Rafa Cabrera Bello at the top of the leaderboard at the 2016 UBS Hong Kong Open after a level-par third round for the Spaniard in Fanling on Saturday.
Cabrera Bello carded a round of 70 thanks to some costly mistakes on both the front and back nines. By contrast, Brazel overcame an early bogey to play efficient golf over the final 17 holes, sinking four birdies and hitting par 13 times.
Brazel and Cabrera Bello ended the day two shots ahead of Tommy Fleetwood, after the Englishman had scored a three-under 67.
Here's what the leaderboard looks like after Saturday:
| Position | Player | To Par | Round Three | Overall |
| T1 | Sam Brazel | -11 | 67 | 199 |
| T1 | Rafa Cabrera Bello | -11 | 70 | 199 |
| 3 | Tommy Fleetwood | -9 | 67 | 201 |
| 4 | David Lipsky | -8 | 66 | 202 |
| T5 | David Howell | -7 | 63 | 203 |
| T5 | Andrew Dodt | -7 | 67 | 203 |
| T5 | Justin Walters | -7 | 69 | 203 |
| T8 | Soomin Lee | -6 | 64 | 204 |
| T8 | Edoardo Molinari | -6 | 64 | 204 |
| T8 | Paul Dunne | -6 | 67 | 204 |
Brazel managed to overcome a bogey at the first hole to eventually put together a solid round. The highlight of his effort on the front nine was sinking a birdie on the par-three fifth.
More steady golf saw Brazel hole birdies at both the 11th and 13th before taking control of the leaderboard three holes later. It was this birdie at the par-four 16th, relayed by the European Tour, that finally put the Australian in the top spot:
Brazel closed out the back nine with par over the last two holes to finish with an impressive 67.
While Brazel progressed steadily, Cabrera Bello ran into trouble at both ends of the course. Four bogeys, including back-to-back gaffes at the sixth and seventh, ruined things for the Spaniard on the front nine.
However, more trouble followed the player who started the day as the outright leader. Cabrera Bello's most costly error came on the par-four 14th when he slipped to this double bogey:
Those extra shots robbed Cabrera Bello of a position he had held since the first day:
The Spaniard needed something special to rally, and he duly got it when he holed a birdie at the 15th. Another birdie followed on the par-four 17th, before par at the 18th meant Cabrera Bello escaped what could have been a disastrous day still in the lead, albeit forced to share top spot.
Fleetwood came the closest to keeping pace with the joint leaders. The Englishman collected a pair of birdies over the front nine, before saving his best for the par-five 13:
Fleetwood's brilliant eagle put him in a strong position, but the 25-year-old will rue the cost of the bogey he hit at the 18th. A round of 67 proved Fleetwood has what it takes to win in Fanling, but he'll need to be more consistent on the final day.
The same is true for Cabrera Bello, who had been the class of the tournament until Saturday's shaky showing.
