UFC 208 Reportedly Moved to Brooklyn: Latest Details, Venue, Schedule and More
UFC 208, scheduled to take place in Anaheim, California, in January 2017, has reportedly been "scrapped," according to Brett Okamoto of ESPN. Instead, UFC 208 will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Feb. 11, per Damon Martin of Fox Sports, with Anaheim set to host a UFC event in August 2017.
According to Okamoto, UFC 208 will now adopt the card that was originally scheduled for UFC 209. And UFC 209 will now be moved to March 4 in Las Vegas, per Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times.
As Pugmire noted, the UFC's decision to schedule three title fights for UFC 205 in November left the cupboard bare for the Anaheim event. Additionally, the men’s and women’s bantamweight belts will be up for grabs at UFC 207 in Las Vegas on Dec. 30.
Nonetheless, UFC 208 looked set to have middleweight champion Michael Bisping as its headliner. But the English fighter is out of action until at least March with a knee injury, per Pugmire, ending that plan.
A different potential headline match was never finalized. According to Martin: "Lightweight contender Tony Ferguson told Fox Sports on Wednesday that the UFC approached him about a possible fight on the card but the bout never came to fruition. According to Ferguson, there was talk about a matchup with No. 1 ranked 155-pounder Khabib Nurmagomedov, but the fight never came together."
Without an obvious main attraction, the Anaheim event was in danger of being dramatically overshadowed by Bellator's Jan. 21 card featuring a matchup between Tito Ortiz and Chael Sonnen.
