WWE Rumors: Buzz on Road to WWE TLC 2016 for Week of November 28
The TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view is only a few days away, but already WWE Creative is looking beyond that to Royal Rumble, which unofficially begins the Road to WrestleMania. Main event planning must take place months in advance if the storytelling is to be effective.
Every year, there's drama and speculation over WWE Creative's backstage machinations. Who's in the main event? Who wants to be in the main event? Who's got a beef with Vince McMahon? And, most importantly, is the main event something that the fans want to see? This, in turn, affects every booking decision that builds toward that match and indirectly affects the rest of the card too.
Here's the latest buzz that we've heard so far.
'Big Match John' Isn't Happy
1 of 5
John Cena is the workhorse of WWE. Every house show. Every Make-A-Wish. Every talk show.
Aside from The Undertaker, the guy is about the closest thing that Vince has to a company soldier. But, apparently, there's some bad blood between Cena and the company for one of the first times.
Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats reports that there's some "friendly tension," mainly stemming from Cena's outside projects and Goldberg's lucrative limited appearance contract.
It's easy to see how Cena might feel underappreciated for his hard work. He may be the highest-paid performer on the roster, but when you compare his millions to the millions that Goldberg makes for a mere handful of appearances (and very little ring time), it's incredibly disproportionate.
Hopefully, Cena and WWE can come to a compromise. But if they can't, Vince has already instructed WWE Creative to plan out contingency plans for WrestleMania.
Bayley vs. Banks III?
2 of 5Now that The Bo$$ is once again the Raw women's champion, she's probably going to hold it for an extended period.
Joe Burgett of Inquisitr reports that Bayley vs. Sasha Banks is the intended women's championship match for WrestleMania. And before the two women begin their feud, Banks needs to hold the belt for a couple months and build herself as a credible champion.
For most fans, this will come as exciting, fantastic news. The Bayley vs. Banks match at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn was an instant classic and managed to steal the entire SummerSlam weekend in 2015.
The proceeding Iron Woman match at NXT TakeOver: Respect was no slouch either. WrestleMania would be the ideal platform for one of the greatest WWE women's rivalries of all time to resume.
Daniel Bryan's Going Rogue
3 of 5
Daniel Bryan caused a bit of a stir when he tweeted at discontented Raw performers. For example, when Cesaro expressed displeasure at being left off the the promotional poster in his native Switzerland, Bryan wrote the following on Twitter:
"If you were on #TeamBlue you'd be on every poster... just saying #BlueIsBetter
"
Ortman is reporting that Bryan is sending these tweets, on his own, without consulting with WWE Creative. There is no current storyline in the works. If true, it shows a real brand competitiveness and further blurs the Superstars' "real" and "scripted" personas on social media.
The Return of Roman Reigns
4 of 5Kevin Owens' tenure as WWE Universal champion has been relatively weak.
Despite being booked as a "prizefighter," Owens has needed Chris Jericho to make the save match after match. This past Monday, without Jericho to protect him, Owens was handed an embarrassing loss by Roman Reigns.
Ortman is reporting that Owens may drop the Universal title to Reigns at Roadblock: End of the Line, which would make Reigns a "double champ" similar to UFC champion Conor McGregor.
If true, this is sure to be controversial. Reigns gets a consistently split reaction from the WWE Universe despite being booked as a babyface. But, apparently, WWE hasn't given up yet on giving him a big push.
Future Plan for the King of Kings
5 of 5Ever since Triple H Pedigreed Seth Rollins and literally handed Kevin Owens the Universal title, he's been a ghost. There's been no official explanation for his actions. But that might change very soon.
Ortman reports that the current plans for Rollins are to have him face Triple H at WrestleMania 33. It's been a storyline long in the making, and they'll likely start building it soon.
Rollins has been moving into a babyface role ever since Triple H's betrayal. A match against The Game, on the biggest possible stage, would go a long way to solidifying his status in the post-Cena era.
